My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Peanut, an oh-so-tiny Chihuahua who was found as a stray in southern Indiana. This little guy won the hearts of the shelter volunteers immediately when he showed up as a stray at the shelter and climbed the fence to be in a pen with a German Shepherd! Imagine their surprise!! It was no surprise when they held him and they discovered how much he loves to snuggle. Any warm body he can find, he will! His sweet disposition made him a great candidate for rescue so he was transported up north to Rover Rescue.
Peanut arrived to a home with several dogs of different ages and sizes and he has shown no issues with any of the dogs. He can hold his own with the big dogs and absolutely loves the other Chihuahuas in his foster home. Peanut has shown no food aggression - he will happily wait his turn at the food dish. He can be petted when he is eating and approached by people with no issues. Peanut is learning to play with dog toys and has shown no toy guarding.
Peanut lives with 5 dog savvy children ages 3-16 years old. Due to Rover Rescue policy, he is not available to homes with children under the age of 5 years old unless they have previous little dog experience. Too often, small children will try to carry little dogs like Peanut and those times result in an injury to the dog. Peanut is very accepting of the various age children who come in the door as well as all adults. He wasn't too sure of his foster dad at first but realized the dogs trusted the big guy and Peanut was soon happily welcoming his foster dad home each day after work like the others!
Peanut was originally crated while his family was gone and at night. Good behavior has earned him the privilege of being loose in the master bedroom when his family is gone. Due to his foster dad's dog allergies, he is not allowed in the bed but sleeps contently on the floor with another dog or with one of the older children. Peanut attempted to mark the first day in his foster home which is common for a small dog who lacks confidence. With his foster mom correcting him and getting neutered, he has not had an issue with this. He is housetrained and easily goes in the backyard with the other dogs to do his business. He has no problem going out in the rain storms unlike the big dogs in the home, lol! Thunder and lightning don't scare this little guy!
Peanut has been neutered and is up to date with his vaccinations including bordetella and rabies. He is microchipped and has tested negative for heartworm. He is on a monthly preventative for fleas and heart worm. Peanut's foster home is limited in the number of dogs they are allowed in the home. His adoption not only gives him a home of his own forever, it also frees up a spot in his foster home so another shelter dog can be rescued! Peanut's adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in making Peanut a part of your family, please call his foster mom Mary at 630-585-7927 for a phone interview. She will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you may have about this little guy!
