Facts about Sheba

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Black (All)
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short

Sheba is a gorgeous, easy going girl and would do well with just about anyone. She can currently be seen enjoying freetime at the facility with her buddy Juliette.

Sheba is friendly and playful but she is perfectly happy doing what she loves most -- lounging in her cat bed. This petite little cat is not needy and would be pleased to have a calm, quiet environment where she can just lounge the day away. (She will show her playful side, too, with a little encouragement!) She does well with other cats as well as dogs -- what a great cat!

Sheba is probably about 1 year old. The lovely lady is showing herself to a be a total lovebug. She can be easily startled, though, so we are recommending she go to a calm home with older children.

Sheba is now at the facility. Drop by (see hours on our main page) to meet her or call/email for an appointment. Thanks!

This wonderful girl raised a litter of kittens (The Voice kittens, Blake, Gwen, etc.) when she first came into the facility in the spring. Her little ones were adopted months ago, and she has been patiently waiting for that special someone to notice how great she is and take her home.

About Fort Leavenworth Stray Facility

About Our Shelter...

Our facility is overseen by FMWR but is all volunteer staffed. We pride ourselves on the level of dedication as we are there for the love of the pets. Our volunteer duties range from walking a dog, cleaning kennels to volunteer recruitment and coordination.

We are proud to say we do not euthanize for need of space. We are a low-kill facility in that we minimize it to medical issues and extreme behavior issues. At this time we are treating a dog with heart worm. This is due to the fact that we do not base our decisions on a pre-set rule but a guideline that allows us to handle every pet on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to treat every animal as an individual.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Monday thru Friday, from 11:00-2:00 our facility is open to the public. If these hours do not work with your schedule please don't hesitate to contact us. We have volunteers that are willing to meet outside of those hours, for serious inquiries.

When volunteers are available you may see one at the Leavenworth Farmer's market walking an adoptable dog. Once a year we are at the Pet Expo event at the Fort Leavenworth PX. During the holidays you won't miss our trees that are adorned with furry friend photos at venues here on post. We can be found at many other public events such as the Fort Leavenworth PAIR Day so please stop by our booth/table and meet some of our volunteers and the furbabies they bring.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process takes 24 hours, unless prior arrangements have been made. Each applicant is required to submit two personal references and one veterinarian reference (if first time pet owner that is waived).

We also require that an adopter's dog and our facility's dog meet each other prior to finalizing the adoption. This is to protect you and both the dogs. We have an exercise yard and are happy to introduce them there while monitoring closely.

Adoption of multiple pets may qualify for an adoption fee discount if the fee is not already reduced.
