My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted July 2016

It’s me, Duke!

I am a 2yr old (born in 2014) Male Shepherd Mix. I am house trained, up to date on vaccinations and I’ve been neutered as well.

So I’ve got some good news, I don’t have to have surgery after all (I admit it, that was scaring me a bit)! I have mild arthritis so I’m not on any medication but I use supplements to help my joints. So MAR is still going thru with the fundraising “Pints and Paint for Paws” cuz they need to pay off the diagnostics, and x-rays bill.

I just love being with my people, I follow them around from room to room to see what’s going on! I enjoy being around Men a little more than Women (don’t take that personal, I love all people) and I approach everyone in a friendly manner, I’m learning to wait to be invited to greet someone though, I just get so excited that I can’t wait...lol I get a little yappy when someone comes to the door (hey, it’s my job to protect my people) but I stop as soon as they come inside.

My foster Mama says, and I quote, “I am a very lovely boy, smart, handsome and I learn very quickly.” She’s such a good foster Mama, I am learning SO much from her! I walk well on a leash, am learning to heel, I don’t lunge or bark at cats or people but I do love to chase leaves if they blow by me (they think they are faster than me so I gotta prove them wrong!) and I love, love, LOVE to play with my ball! I am crate trained and don’t mind going in it at night or when my foster leaves the house for a bit.
I do an amazing trick! I ring a jingle bell on the door to let them know when I need to go outside to do my business! (I’m a pretty cool dog as you can see!). I also know commands like “leave it”, “let’s go”, “stop”, “easy”, “sit”, “stay”, “no”, etc. I don’t have any food aggression, the resident pup is much smaller than me and she sticks her head in my bowl when I’m eating all the time, I don’t care, I pay no attention, she’s a cutie, we play all the time. I do get a little unsure around big dogs (I’m pretty big myself so I just need a little bit more confidence) but I’ve started to approach them at the dog park to play.

I’m looking forward to my forever home where I can settle in and stay!
