My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there,
My name is Sullivan…it’s nice to meet you. I should mention I’m an adult dog, about 5 years old, and about 30lbs. That sounds big, but my legs are short, and I do my best to stay small, and curl up where no one notices me....My friends at NBS Animal Rescue said that “it’s okay to be shy”, and is going to give me some more time before I try to get adopted, but I should be available in mid-June. Please don’t be upset if I hesitate to talk about myself, I’m a pretty shy boy.

In fact, I wish I was invisible sometimes… When NBS was contacted by a shelter in Rover Rouge, they were told how terrified I was. Shelters are scary places, the volunteers are nice, but the sounds were so overwhelming for me, all I could do was melt to the floor in fear. Even when the gal from NBS came to get me, I couldn’t even look her in the eye, or even walk. Thankfully, NBS folks are very patient. Instead of scolding me, she just scooped me up and held me tight. Ugh, it felt so nice to just be held by someone kind – I’d almost forgotten what that feels like.

In my foster home, it took me days before I ventured outside. Because my foster parents are so amazingly gentle with me I have gained some confidence and am a potty champ at doing my business outside now. Although I’m easily frightened by new people, quick movements, and loud noises, I’ve never tried to bite anyone – but I would prefer a home with kids 12 and up, as it would be nice to have mature kids who understand my personality. I love to play and romp with other mellow and gentle playing dogs and I've even met a cat a few times. It is nice to have someone to lay down and snuggle with, I definitely enjoy that much. Please forgive me, if I don’t know how to play fetch or go for long walks, I just learned that humans are kind, it will take me time to learn what its like to be a real dog. I'm learning that a collar and a leash are good things and that going for walks with my foster mom bring exciting things to sniff and new friends who always have kind words and tasty treats to share with me.

I would love a home that could show me that I don’t have to be invisible, and that it’s okay to be confident. I need a fur-ever home where my family is calm and quiet, home often, has kids 12+ years of age with dog experience, and I am looking for a home that has a fenced yard, so I can explore on my own a little bit and romp and play when I become more confident, and a gentle hand to scratch my ears, and tell me “I’m worth it”, that’s all I really want. Is that too much to ask? I hope not, because deep down, I have have love to my give my new fur-ever family too.

P.S. Here are the helpful steps in applying!

1.) Visit www.NBSAnimalRescue.com happy to adopt me. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you, and whatever other pets you have in the home to make sure we all get along. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to do the next steps too. : )

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release info about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your vet). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
