My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nina, 6 month old female yellow puppy (special needs)
.
Sweet Nina is a very special girl looking for a very special home. A lucky set of coincidences helped Nina find her way to her current foster home in GGLRR and we know those same fates are guiding her to a perfect forever home. Could you be the one?

Nina has a genetic disease called Labrador Myopathy (aka Labrador CNM). The disease causes muscle weakness and atrophy which typically stabilizes around 12-18 months of age. Nina is currently doing well in our foster home and Labradors with milder cases of CNM have lived long and happy lives. We are hopeful that with a little bit of luck and the right home that Nina will continue to thrive in her own special way.

Nina is a playful, spunky puppy with a loving and expressive Lab personality. While her disease slows her down, it certainly doesn’t stop her. Watching Nina enjoy the simple pleasures of life – going outside on a sunny day, frolicking in the grass, and investigating the latest scents, will help you remember to “stop and smell the roses” in your own life.

Comments from her foster mom:

Nina is a special dog - very affectionate and people oriented. She gets around mostly walking in her halting fashion, but sometimes crawling when she gets tired. She is playful with a ball and with toys. She is curious about the outdoors and my dogs. She is house trained and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. The ideal home for her will be a one story home with minimal hard surface floors as it is easier for her to walk on carpet (she does manage the couple of steps into the house). If you’re looking for the love and companionship of a young dog without the high energy and exercise requirements, Nina is your girl.

Comments from her rescue rep:

We are looking for a very special home for Nina. We would like a home with an experienced dog owner where someone is around most of the day. Other friendly dogs in the home are fine as Nina enjoys their company and they seem to motivate her to do more. Nina is looking for a special owner who will love her as she is and who can provide a rich and quality life for this very sweet girl.

If you think you might have what it takes to offer this very special girl a very special home, please contact Rescue Rep Katy at 650-796-3596.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
