My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

TOFFEE is a 2 year old spayed chocolate female Lab who weighs 62 pounds. Toffee is a sweet girl. She loves people. It took her a few days to settle in, had her pups the day after she got to her foster, so everything was new to her including the pups. She seems to be mostly house trained. She has had a few accidents, but tries to wait until I let her outside, not unusual for nursing mothers who are eating extra food because of the pups. Toffee doesn't seem to know any commands yet and can be a little jumpy. She was a stray to the shelter, She loves to get pets and belly rubs and loves to give kisses. She likes to chase a tennis ball, not always good about bringing it back. Toffee is a very nice girl who wants to be near her people. She will be a good addition for a family. Toffee is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update: FOSTER FRIDAY: Toffee says, "today is the happiest Friday! I found this AWESOME carrot in the toy stash and it is SO much fun to play with! Plus foster mom gave me the green light to RUN AND PLAY now that I'm totally healed from my spay!" Toffee would love to have a family with a fenced yard that will give her love and play, belly rubs and maybe even a young companion to romp with. She's perfect in the crate, perfect house manners, perfectly quiet at night...who am I kidding? She's pretty darn perfect overall! This girl loves to chew on antlers and bones, play with toys, chase tennis balls, get snuggles and love from humans and other dogs, and just wants to please her people.

Update: The resident pack is THRILLED to have Toffee back after a week vacation. She's *almost* fully healed from her spay and is ready to romp and play again as soon as foster mom gives the green light. Toffee is walking a bit better on leash, and still sleeping through the night. The fireworks last night didn't bother her at all. Her coat is looking fabulous, all grown back in and getting soft. Toffee would love to have a young canine companion to romp with in her forever home (though not necessary), but her energy level and desire to play may be a bit much for senior pups.

Update: Pretty Toffee is doing so amazing! Her coat is coming back in and she is looking awesome!! She's figured out the play dynamics with her youngest foster sibling and appropriately shares times of tackler vs being tackled, instead of always taking on the role of letting herself be tackled. It's a complete joy to watch her have fun! She loves pulling all the toys out of the toy box one at a time and playing with each one. She's going to be the perfect addition to a very lucky family.

Update:: FOSTER FRIDAY: Toffee is full of joy today as she hunts for her forever family! She is having such a blast just being a "kid" again after mothering her 10 puppies and sending them off to their forever families. Sweet Toffee is house and crate trained (though she really doesn't need one), great on leash with an Easy Walk harness, and boy oh boy does this girl love to play! She fetches tennis balls, toys, chases frisbees and other dogs, and is all about the fun. Her play bow is ON POINT, and she's excellent with the other 4 dogs in the house ranging in age from 2 - 10. Her coat isn't perfect - she gave all her nutrients to her many sweet puppies, after all - but is starting to soften a bit and grow back. She's going to be a STUNNING girl when she's in shape.

Update:: Toffee is such a bundle of sweetness! She rides perfectly in the car. She enjoyed meeting her canine foster siblings and is ready to play! She was intrigued when foster mom threw the tennis ball and picked it up and carried it around a bit, but there were too many new smells to investigate to bring it back.

Update:: Toffee said goodbye to her puppies, and is now looking to be pampered. Raising a litter of 10 puppies took a lot out of her. She needs to continue eating hearty food so her coat becomes healthy again. She can be a bit jumpy on new people because she wants to say Hi! and get lots of pets and belly rubs. She loves giving kisses. Everything seems to be new to Toffee. She is not used to a being on a leash, and needs to be walked with a harness. Since she will not go to the bathroom while on the leash, a fenced yard is a must. No invisible fences. She rides well in a car, but needs some encouragement getting in. Toffee is a puppy at heart and will need to go to obedience training. She enjoys de-stuffing stuffed toys and chasing after a tennis ball. She is a very sweet girl.

Update: Now that the puppies are gone, Toffee is showing her puppy personality. This girl wants to play all the time. She will do best with a family who has a young and playful dog as she may be too much for an older and more mellow one. Toffee is housetrained and doesn't get into trouble when left alone. She had a checkup at the vet's yesterday, and we're working on making her coat get healthier. She would benefit from weekly baths and continuing eating high protein food to gain some weight. She has the sweetest personality.
