My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name? My name is Carter
How old are you? I’m six months old
How much do you weigh? 41 lbs. and gaining!
What do you look like? I am brindle… that’s a mix of brown and black and I have a white chest. It looks like I’m wearing a tuxedo. Anyway, I am SO handsome… everybody says so!
What do you like to eat? I eat grain free kibble now but I also love when my foster Mom freezes my Kong with apples, peanut butter and pumpkin filling.
What kind of personality do you have? I am quite the character and my foster family says I am such a love bug. I guess because I love to cuddle. Yep, I’m a spooner!
Describe your perfect day: As soon as I wake up I like lots and lots of love from my foster Mom… remember I’m a love bug! Then after I go potty I have my breakfast. Afterwards my foster Dad takes me for a walk, then I help him with chores around the house. Well, basically I keep him company while he’s doing all the work. This is usually when I get my bully stick because I like to chew and it keeps me busy. I then take a nap because chores are hard work. When I get up my foster Mom gives me more love then I get my Kong. I’m actually pretty spoiled because I’m such a good boy!
What is your favorite toy? I have two balls that I like to play with. One is a fluffy ball that squeaks and the other is a rubber ball that crackles. It’s like a plastic bottle inside and makes noises like I hadn’t heard before.
Do you know any tricks? I know how to sit and I’m learning to “get on my bed.” My foster Mom is teaching me to stay down and I go into my crate on command.
What scares you? Not much although I am not fond of strange noises; however in fairness almost everything is strange to me because I’m only six months old.
Have you been around children? Do you like them? I LOVE children!
Do you like cats? When I saw my one and only cat, I thought he was coming to play with me and I was sad when he walked away. My foster Dad could tell I was just curious. I actually didn’t react so I guess I like them. My foster Mom says that since I don’t chase the squirrels in the yard, I probably wouldn’t chase cats.
How do you feel about other dogs? Well I haven’t been around many dogs I don’t know but I lived with quite a few in my former foster home. The ones I see while on walks I am kind of shy around since we haven’t been properly introduced.
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
In my forever home with lots and lots of love!
How is your health? Perfect as far as I know. My foster Mom says I am strong and my coat is beautiful so I assume it comes from good healthy genes.
Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with my foster Mom and Dad but I am kind of partial to my foster Mom. My foster Dad thinks I’m a woman’s dog. Maybe it’s because I’m so handsome and women swoon over me! There aren’t any animal companions in my foster home but my foster Mom and Dad have 7 children and 13 grandchildren so I have lots of human companions since they all just love visiting me.
Where do you hang out when you are home alone? In my crate. I like it in there, it makes me feel safe.
Where do you sleep? I sleep in my crate for my naps and at night.
Do you like walking on a leash? I love my leash. When my foster Mom and Dad get it out it means I’m going on a walk!!
Do you have any "not-so-great" habits that we should know about? For instance, do you bark or dig in the yard? I don’t think I have any “not-so-great” habits but on occasion I do try to bury my chew sticks. My foster Mom and Dad try to keep me chewing on my chew sticks because otherwise I chew on sticks and other things I find in the back yard. And, maybe I need to learn not to jump on people. It’s one of the things my Foster mom is working on with me but it’s hard because I love her and I want her to love on me. She says I’m getting much better about jumping though.
Are you house trained? (Meaning do you go potty outside) We’re working on it but I’d say 95%. I still have an accident now and then.
Do you like water? My foster Dad put me in the pool to make sure I knew where the steps were and I wasn’t crazy about that at all! Maybe if I tried it again I might grow to like it.
What do you love about your foster family? They give me lots of love and attention. But I am such a good boy it’s hard not too!

What was your life like before being brought into NorCal Bully Breed Rescue?
I was born a NBBR puppy since my real Mom came to them with me in her tummy.
NorCal Bully Breed Rescue is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread all throughout the Sacramento area. We usually require our adopters to be within a 50 to 100 mile radius of us, depending on the dog, and depending on the home. This is because we need to do a yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed. We are, however, willing to adopt out of our area, including the Bay Area, Tahoe, and even further. We've even adopted out of state on very special occasions. We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a "first come, first serve" basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog. Our adoption fees are based on the dog and range from $200-$350. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary). If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you can visit our website at norcalbullybreedrescue.com and fill out an adoption application (from your home computer). Please allow at least 24 to 48 hours for a reply. Thanks in advance.

Carter is one of a litter of nine pups born on April 6th. He is fully vetted - UTD on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and ready to join his new family in his forever home. His adoption fee is $350.

Interested in meeting Carter or any of our other available pooches? Go to our website - norcalbullybreedrescue.com - complete and submit our adoption application.
