Red is a very handsome and lovable boy who had a less than ideal start to life. He was rehomed to a farm when his owner was no longer wished to continue his training. Red was found distressed and with quills in his face, away from the farm, in mid-May, north of Regina. He is needs a forever home where someone will give him love and affection every day.
True to his breed, Red loves being with people and being an indoor family dog. He is very affectionate and happy to relax on his dog bed, and to lounge and play in the yard with his foster family and foster dog sister. Red is a great jogger and would make a wonderful addition to a family committed to daily walks and frequent runs (he ran a half marathon his 3rd run out). He is friendly to older children and would likely love younger children, keeping in mind that he is quite large. He likes to be brushed and loves to get pets.
Hound dogs are not for every family. Red has a VERY loud voice and chats to his foster family all day long. He will let you know when he is happy, scared, excited or frustrated. Due to the downturn of his mouth he drools A LOT. If he is excited, drinking from a dish can turn into a full bath.
Red is newly neutered and until those leftover hormones get out of his system may have issues with other males, however he plays very nicely with his 40lb Husky-mix foster sister.
Red has not yet learned that his next meal will be coming soon and there is no point in scavenging for food. With his strong food drive he is an excellent learner and is very motivated to learn in order to get that treat. Manners training will be a must for this boy!
