This freckle-faced redhead is looking for a loving human-dog combo who would welcome him into their family and on adventures! Connor is a great trail partner and is a fantastic playmate for most dogs. He is very careful when playing with foster Chihuahuas or puppies, and I have been impressed with his nurturing ability. He has gotten along well with all of my dogs - six males ranging from 7-70 pounds. Because Connor trusts dogs more than humans, he definitely needs a companion dog in his new home to help him feel comfortable and safe.
Connor is trustworthy in the house. When I go on errands, I can leave him in the house with other dogs and the house is the same as when I left. What a good boy! Connor attended school with me in the spring. Being treat-motivated, he did very well. And Connor is completely loyal. If Connor gets loose, I don’t worry about him running off - quite remarkable for a hound! Connor does enjoy going for walks and hikes on leash, but because he can be nervous of new people and places, he would prefer a home with a fenced yard. Apartment living is probably not the best fit for him.
This past summer Connor learned to swim on his own! After going to the river several times a week for adventures with my dog pack, he finally got up the nerve to swim across the river with his big foster brothers. I was so happy for him. The day he started swimming he stayed wet for several hours, frolicking in the water!
Connor needs time to get comfortable with new people before they try to touch or pet him. He is sensitive and responds well to calm, patient handling. I’ve learned to use a very gentle approach with Connor. He had an ear injury when he was in his first home, and since then was afraid to let people touch his ears. But he has made great progress with this, and I now swab out his ears daily! I love having Connor in my family, but he needs a family of his very own. He is looking for a home with adults only, or possibly kids over 12 if they are calm and good with shy dogs. Connor is an intelligent, loyal, nurturing dog waiting to join his forever pack.

Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label.
