Jake's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.

Jake's Story...
Our best guess is that young Jake is Border Collie, Cattle Dog, and Heeler mix. He sustained a broken back ankle after being caught in a trap, but it has since healed. He is a bit pigeon toed, and will remain so.
Jake loves to play with, and snuggle with, larger female dogs, and would make a perfect companion to a playful female. Probably no small dogs or cats (though we haven't tried him with cats)--he is a 'herder' and wants compliance of small animals. (Small animals often object to this!!!)

Jake is about 50 pounds, black and white, a lovely spotted nose, tallish legs. He's a great hiking partner. (We hike with him off leash.) He is a strong dog, and very healthy. He seems unusually intelligent and loyal.

That said, he's wary of people at first, but with kindness will melt into the most loving, loyal dog imaginable. What he most wants is a kind, loving human or two and a 'dog wife,'--that is, a canine female life companion with which he can bond. He prefers female dogs his own size or larger. He is very trustworthy around the home, and doesn't dig, cause havoc, or try to escape. He's still not a fan of leashes, but we're working with him. He seems more comfortable in a 'Halti' than a straight leash. He's great off-leash--but this would only work for a person with access to off-leash areas.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jake, a Chimayo Border Collie/Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Border Collie/Cattle Dog for sale in Chimayo, or seeking a Border Collie/Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Chimayo.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Chimayo already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Chimayo breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie/Cattle Dog breeders who help with Border Collie/Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Chimayo paves the way for another one to be saved.
