Okay folks, Champion is the epitome of what rescue is really all about!
Champion was adopted from a high kill shelter in Houston, Texas as a puppy, only to be found on the streets roughly four years later. Battered, bruised and emaciated, it is hard to know all that this boy had to endure to stay alive. Riddled with mange and a broken heart, we felt it was our duty to provide this boy his second chance seeing as how he was not willing to give up on himself, despite the horrible odds he faced as an “unwanted.”
Despite all that he has been through, Champion is a very sweet, loving dog that loves attention from people. He gives big kisses with his sizeable tongue. He likes to curl up on a dog bed or sleep or in an unoccupied, empty chair. He is a companion, a friend…he is THAT dog.
Champion is encouraged to go into his crate with rewards. In case you cannot tell by his slight (but increasing) frame, he is very food motivated! Champion has not had any accidents in his foster home, but has been somewhat limited in his freedom since he is in the process of crate training. He sleeps through the night in his crate without making a sound and rides nicely in the car.
Champion also enjoys roaming the back yard, including the indulgence of a leisurely nap in the sun. He plays well with a young and somewhat exuberant, 4-month old border collie foster puppy and even gives him kisses when both are being petted simultaneously. That being said, he has also put him in his rightful place a time or two (just as any good Uncle would do)! We feel that a home without feline companions would be best for Champion.
Champion can pull on a leash if he is particularly interested or motivated in seeing something of interest to him, but generally walks well on a harness.
Due to his most recent history, we are taking introductions with other adult dogs slowly until such time Champion has established trust and believes that he is finally safe. He has completed all of his initial vetting and will be preparing to go through his heartworm treatment at the expense of 2BABR once his weight has become more ideal for his size. His skin is improving and we look forward to sharing the before and after pictures of this amazing dog once his transformation is complete!
All Champion needs now is an advocate; a friend or family that understands that life isn’t perfect, but can show him that hope exists. Love can conquer all…and ultimately right the wrongs of others. Champion has so much to share with that special someone who can look past the existence of his current rough exterior to see that same beautiful puppy that still exists and wants to be loved!
