My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Simeon and Garfunkel are at a shelter in Tennessee with whom we partner. They were rescued from a hoarding situation and then moved into a foster home after being at the shelter for a year. Since they are longer fur dogs, the shelter thinks they'd do better in our climate so we are hoping to help them out.

Simeon is a 3.5 year old black and white Border Collie mix.
Garfunkel is a 2.5 year old black and tan Shepherd mix.

Their foster family wrote this wonderful bio below. If you are interested in more information about these two wonderful dogs, please call the shelter and ask to speak with Kelly Bowers at extension 102

We have had Simeon and Garfunkel here on our farm for only 5 days, and they have already made so much progress! We learned quickly that they would do almost anything for a treat (peanut butter seems to be their favorite). It does take a few minutes for them to feel comfortable coming to you when you first go into the area, but even that has lessened each day. And, after they do come to you, they’re very eager to be petted and rubbed.

Their intelligence is very obvious in a lot of ways. When I got the leashes out for only the third time, they seemed to understand that they would get to go on a walk, and were eager. During walks, they enjoy every new thing they can discover; tracking, smelling, especially getting in the water (they get hot easily, so that probably explains the water enjoyment).

They are calm when inside their pen, and are quiet when nothing much is going on. They have not barked at night (even on the first night here). However, they will make wonderful watch dogs, as anytime someone pulls into our driveway or walks outside, they are alert and aware, barking to let us know something different is going on. During our walks, though, when encountering the cattle, they never tried to chase them or bark.

Simeon and Garfunkel are definitely happier when together; separating them seems to cause some anxiety, especially for Simeon. There was some expected acclimation time between them and our existing farm dogs; however, that all seemed to be mostly worked out fairly quickly. Neither dog has shown any aggression tendencies while here (toward animals or people).

While Simeon is somewhat more cautious, Garfunkel seems to want to trust. He shows signs of being very loyal to whoever will treat him well. Simeon is always willing to give kisses whenever you spend time with him. Both are beautiful dogs and will make someone very happy and loving companions.
