Update: Helen recently spent the holidays in her vacation foster home while her foster mom was away. Her vacation fosters said she was such a good girl in their home and giving insulin wasn't a problem. Helen even jumped in the mail truck wanting a ride. Helen is a super sweet chocolate shadow looking for her forever home as an only dog.
Update: 6 year old HELEN wants to know if she can be your chocolate shadow. Helen loves all people, car rides, belly rubs, her squeaky babies, playing fetch, and has the softest ears. She has limited eyesight, needs two insulin shots for her diabetes and would like to be the only dog in the family. Helen has perfect house manners and will shower you with love!
Update: HELEN is the sweetest chocolate shadow. She has perfect house manners, loves the car, walks,all humans and her squeaky babies. Helen doesn't see very well from untreated diabetes and needs insulin shots twice a day. She's not a fan of dogs that get in her face, but loves her humans. She walks well on an Easy Walk harness, and is approved for town home living.
Update: Helen is enjoying the cool fall weather, with the sun on the deck, and maybe striking a few yoga poses. This girl is so perfect, easy and ready for her forever family!
Update: "Are YOU my mother?" Helen has some great news! She has been approved for cataract surgery (which Lab Rescue will pay for) to improve her vision! Helen has perfect house manners and is low key. She's not bothered by storms or fireworks. Helen loves to ride in the car and run errands. She also enjoys playing fetch at home. She is approved for town homes. Helen has gained the 20 pounds she needed to gain and her diabetes is under control. Now all she needs is her own family.
Update: Helen continues to thrive in her foster home. She loves the car, spending time with people, going on walks, playing with squeaky toys, and shadowing her foster Mom! She is now at her perfect weight and waiting for that special forever home to give her eye drops and twice a day insulin.
Update: Helen has reached the perfect weight of 60 pounds and is eligible for her eye surgery to remove a cataract from untreated diabetes. 6 yr old Helen is a dark chocolate shadow who loves car rides, walks, carrying a toy baby, squeaky balls for fetch, and following her foster Mom up and down the stairs all day. She is not afraid of storms or fireworks but, because of her limited eyesight not is not a fan of barking dogs who charge her. Helen's perfect home has someone home more often than not and a family who can commit to a schedule for insulting injections twice a day.
Update: Helen has gained 3 more pounds!! She's doing great in her foster home and having limited eyesight before her surgery doesn't stop this girl! Check out the video of her playing fetch!
Update: Helen is a true love bug and her Foster Mom feels she would make a great therapy dog, desk buddy, or RV companion. She loves to travel and be with her people. Helen is diabetic and has plans to have her eye surgery soon to help improve her vision.
Update: Helen continues to blossom with love and good food. This sweet girl is a car addict and loves to ride and travel. Helen likes to be around her people and loves belly rubs and ear scratches. She is not afraid of storms, takes treats gently, does not counter surf and doesn't bark or chew!
Update: Helen has gained 2.2 pounds in two weeks and weighs 53.6 pounds now! She loves to lie on the deck or close to where Foster mom is - her humans are her favorite! No crate needed for this girl and only needs a short walk to take care of business. We don't want to burn too many calories so she can keep putting on weight. She loves riding in the car and loves everyone who arrives in one. Her bleached out coat is almost gone and the color of her new coat is stunning!
Update: Helen is such a sweet girl. She continues to feel comfortable in her home and is perfect for her insulin shots and eye drops. She has relaxed so much since she first arrived. She loves to go for walks and walks beautifully with an Easy Walk harness. While in the house, she plays with her squeaky toys or just hangs out next to foster mom. She loves to follow you around. She's working on gaining weight so she can have her cataract surgery.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound) Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.
Lab Rescue LRCP has between 50 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required.
