Bell's Story...
Miss Bell is, in every way, a beautiful Southern Belle! She comes to our rescue all the way from Louisiana where she was dumped at a high kill shelter by her owner in the night drop-off box with a note that said her owner was moving and could not take her. Bell had grown up with the same family (with children) for all of her 8 years, and suddenly found herself in a very scary situation, about to die due to the overcrowding at the shelter. We believe no dog should have to endure that kind of an end, especially after 8 years of loyalty to her family! We stepped in, saved her life, and brought her to Maryland where she has been living with a doting foster family.

Bell was extremely thin when we got her, and she is now 53 lbs. and could stand to gain a little more weight to be considered at ideal weight. She is spayed heartworm negative, has been dewormed, and is up to date on all her vaccines. She is perfectly healthy now and has begun to act young and spry again, not at all like the 8 years old we were told she is. She is allergic to flea bites, so she has been completely de-fleaed and will need to stay on monthly flea prevention so she does not get itchy skin again. Aside from that, her vet says she is now in great shape and ready to be adopted!

Bell is being fostered in a home with 3 other dogs, and has adapted beautifully. She snuggles at night with her foster mom on the couch for evening TV and sleeps in a bed with whomever is lucky enough to be chosen each night. She is not at all destructive, she is completely housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, and does not need to be crated for any reason. She does great with children, adults, men, women, and other dogs. She was cat-tested and showed zero interest in the cats. More than anything, Bell loves, loves, LOVES the water just like most labs do!

Bell is considered a senior at 8 years old, but her health and her energy level indicate she is in great shape and should have many more great years with the proper love and care. She will be an EASY addition to any family, as she comes with no issues at all that we have seen. She is kind and gentle and happy and playful as well as snuggly and loves affection and petting.

Interested adopters please email to request an adoption application. Adopters are subject to vet reference, personal references, home visit, and meet and greet with all household members (two and four legged!). Adoption fee applies.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bell, a Bowie Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Bowie, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Bowie.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bowie already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bowie breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bowie paves the way for another one to be saved.
