ABR rescues Boxers who are big, small, sweet, naughty, fast, slow, sick, healthy, seeing, blind, hearing, deaf… They each have their own needs and personalities and some, like our deaf ones, stand out just a bit. They are smart, attentive, very eager to please and forever by your side. This little girl, Jamice, is one of our deaf dogs that will steal your heart; you see, deaf dogs hear with their hearts. She was made to have puppies far too early so she’s a bit cautious with other dogs, but once this 1 to 2 year old gets to know them, the race is on!
She has a beautiful white coat with a happy face and one blue eye. She is a bit smaller than an average female but her personality certainly is not. She already knows hand signs for sit, stay, come, crate, and lay down. One of our deaf alumni excels at obedience competitions, and is a certified therapy dog; so don’t underestimate Jamice’s abilities. She is house, crate and leash trained and she lives with kids, 2 Boxers and a small dog. Because young kids may unwittingly startle her, kids 10 & older please.
She is a Velcro dog, as most deafies are, and an A+ snuggler who wakes her foster mom by laying completely on top of her, and wiggling of course. Jamice is healthy although she is heartworm positive. Treatment need not be difficult now, and ABR always works with the family for treatment. Jamice is far from symptomatic and has the energy of a typical young Boxer whose job is to explore their world and report back to mom. Those who share, or have shared, their lives with deaf Boxers always talk about the deep, deep bonds they formed in reverent tones. It really is magical.
