Darla's Story...
Hey! I'm Darla. I'm about 5 months old and I'm chilling in foster care! I'm almost 100% house trained but I'm still VERY puppy! Lots of energy and I LOVE TO CHEW!!!! Visit me Saturday! (Or call to set up an appointment! )

Unlike our cats, we try to have our dogs in foster homes throughout the week. If a dog is in a foster home, they come in on Saturdays from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Arrangements can be made to have specific dogs brought in during the week- just give us a call or email to see if the dog you are interested in is in a foster home and set up a meeting time if necessary.

Our adoption fees include the following: all of our dogs/puppies are current on vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, heartworm tested and current on preventative, treated for fleas/ticks and are spayed or neutered. Our large dog adoption fee is generally $125.00 + tax. Our small dog and puppy adoption fee is generally $160.00 + tax. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Due to space limitations, we do not hold dogs.

You also have the option to microchip your new dog/puppy for only $20 + tax. Brookings city pet licenses are also available for purchase for those living in Brookings, SD.

Because we are on a busy street, we require that all dogs leaving the shelter be in a carrier or on leash. All pets remain up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee paid.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Darla, a Brookings Australian Cattle Dog puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Brookings, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog puppy from a breeder in Brookings.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Brookings already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Brookings breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Brookings paves the way for another one to be saved.
