Princess is a loving, well-mannered Retriever mix. After living happily in CT with an elderly couple, who can no longer care for her, she is searching for her final and forever home. Princess is 8-10 years old and a bit chubby (shhh, don’t tell her we said that). With regular exercise and good nutrition she will be just beautiful, with her long, wavy fur and sweet smile.
Princess has been bounced from home to home and was rescued from the South several years ago. After trying to re-home Princess themselves, her elderly parents’ children offered to take Princess to a shelter or have her euthanized! We could not let that happen to this sweet girl and we rushed to help. Princess did not get along well with a small dog in her current home, so a home without other little dogs will be best for Princess.
Princess has just moved to her foster home in CT where she will be groomed, brought up to date on her vaccinations, and given lots of attention. Princess has nice house manners and is housebroken. She adores people. From her video it is easy to see that she walks nicely on leash and pays close attention to her person. She loves to be spoken to kindly and petted. She just wants to be your special girl and this lady has paid her dues. If you have a quiet home with no small dogs and love to spare, please ask about Princess. She is an easy dog who demands little and will be a wonderful companion. She was so sweet and submissive when her human foster brother was combing out her matted fur! Princess is just a nice, nice dog!
Black "Goldens...?"
Since the early 2000’s, animal rescue workers have noticed an increasing phenomena called, “Black Dog Syndrome,” which is that black dogs tend to be adopted more slowly than dogs of other coloring. As a result, there are more black dogs in shelters, and black dogs have a higher euthanization rate – purely because of the color of their coat! In a recent survey done by the adoption website “Petfinder,” Petfinder member shelters and rescue groups reported that most pets are listed for 12.5 weeks on Petfinder, whereas, less-adoptable pets (such as black, senior, and special needs pets) spend almost four times as long on Petfinder.
You may ask, "what does this have to do with a Golden Retriever rescue?" Our rescue often goes a step further than basic rescue, by taking in dogs that might be thought of as “less adoptable” because of their physical condition. We have expanded that to include these special black dogs, many often thought to be Golden mixes. Since doing so, we have seen an overwhelming interest in these “black goldens,” and note that we begin receiving inquiries about them as son as we publish their pictures on our website! Like all of our dogs, these pups are just looking for a family that can see beyond their coloring to their true “golden heartedness,” and to love them and make them their own! Those who can, will be glad they did!

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.
A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
