Update 12/12/16

Ginger Shadow continues to make tremendous progress in his foster home!! In the past few weeks Ginger Shadow realized that hanging out with the family and canine brothers way more fun than being in his room upstairs. He's often found hanging out on the living room rug with his brother or sorting through a collection of toys. He's even been showing off his toy chewing skills to his mom too. When his foster parents come home, he rushes down the stairs to welcome them with tail wags and play bows. The whole family is just in love with this sweet boy!

When our friends at Operation Pets Alive asked for our help with a shy boy named Shadow, we did not hesitate for a moment to say yes. Shadow embodies everything we hold dear as an organization and our commitment to never leave the special ones behind. Spending nearly his entire life on a farm, Shadow had little socialization. Luckily, an amazing foster family in Texas saw his true potential and took Shadow into their home. He spent 6 months learning to trust people and all the basics of being a loved, inside family dog.

Shadow has been looked over time and time again due to his shyness. So when one of our amazing Northern foster families volunteered to take him into their home we were elated! Thanks to the amazing folks at Hank’s Flights, Shadow and his foster dad were able to travel to New England first class to his new foster family, who was eagerly awaiting his arrival!

It’s now been over 1 month since Shadow arrived and we’ve come to realize that this boy is some kind of special. His foster family has been trying to find the right words to describe him and perhaps those words don’t exist, but they’re certainly going to give it a try! Here’s what his NE foster parents have to say:

“Shadow is a sweet, gentle soul who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Shadow’s social skills with other dogs are impeccable. He’s been the easiest dog by far to integrate into our dog pack and home. Over the last month, Shadow’s settled in nicely and starting to show his true playful side. The transformation has really been incredible to say the least. Shadow’s initial instinct was always to pancake to the ground or hide in a closet or crate whenever he heard an unfamiliar sound. Now, Shadow greets us every day by the door when we come home. Shadow explores the house, runs around the yard, chews on antlers, and plays with his canine foster brother nightly. He now seeks our attention to play or scratch him. Sometimes he quietly sneaks into our bed while we’re sleeping and snuggles up to us. Shadow knows the commands come, sit, outside, and bedtime. He’s very well behaved in the house and can be left out of his crate while his foster parents work 9-5. Shadow is housetrained, cratetrained and doesn’t give any trouble during baths or nail clippings. He is looking for a home on a quiet street and a fenced yard. Shadow is a true treasure and we know he will make a family very happy someday.”

About Our Rescue Group...

PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
