My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When I caught my first brief glimpse of her she took my breath away … a beautiful sable and white rough coated collie girl with a picture-perfect face, stunning amber-brown eyes and those oh-so-adorable tipped collie ears. Classy Cassie (a.k.a. Cassidy) weighs about 50 pounds and is in excellent health. She is heartworm negative, up to date on all her vaccinations, is also micro-chipped and her next rabies vaccination is a distant 2 ½ years away. She is house trained. She does have a genetic eye condition (Corneal Lipid Dystrophy) that will require treatment with Cyclosporene eye drops for the rest of her life - one drop in each eye, once a day - at bedtime. Today her vision is good (it’s similar to looking through eye glasses with a fingerprint smudge on each lense). It is likely to remain so, unless left untreated. Close to 5 years old Cassie is a high energy girl so she will need an experienced dog-saavy owner to guide her. She really enjoys going for a walk but bicyclists, joggers and motorcycles perplex her and therefore are suspect and deemed worthy of pursuit … so obedience training and leash etiquette lessons are a must. She also appears to apply that same reasoning to cats as our vet has observed that she probably will not be befriending any cats. Ever!!! Cassie will also need a review of the basic commands as she tends to ignore them whenever she feels like it. She is smart as a whip and learns very fast, so with persistence and patience she will quickly come to understand what is expected of her. When that milestone is reached she will be the obedient, well mannered beauty she was born to be. A lively, strong-willed young girl, she is quite confident in her abilities and will therefore make a fine watch dog as she will not hesitate to bark loudly when a stranger appears. She is good with older children, but toddlers are an unknown. She quickly makes herself at home and, if allowed, has no problems sleeping on the bed. Cassie likes to sleep-in and is generally the last one to get out of bed in the morning. As with many dogs, she is not a fan of thunderstorms and lightning, and will likely show the same sensitivity to fireworks and such. She was quickly accepted as a new pack member in her foster home and therefore has learned much from her foster pack brothers and sisters. She would not likely do as well on her own as she gets bored by herself, therefore we think it best for her that she go to a home with another canine playmate or two with the energy to keep her occupied. Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
