My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Angel Baby is the name of this lovely sable-headed white collie with the big smile. Her smile is this big because she dodged a bullet in a municipal shelter. At the age of 9, brought in by her family because she was too old and needed some vet care, Angel could have been taken quietly to the back of the shelter and euthanized immediately. Because Pueblo Collie & Sheltie Rescue has become well-known for our kindness and conscientious care of dogs that have been neglected (some folks would call this being labeled a sucker!), the shelter liaison called to ask us to take Angel and make her well and find her the perfect place for her to enjoy her senior years. Angel does not seem to be a typical senior. Her initial bloodwork showed that she is hypothyroid and we have started her on supplementation. Because someone shaved her glorious collie coat, we will have to wait for her thyroid level to even out to see if her fur will come back. She had a raging urinary tract infection which is being treated with antibiotics and we will do a follow-up urinalysis to make sure that this issue is cleared up. When Angel had a dental cleaning and polishing to make her smile as white as her fur, Dr. Smith commented on what nice shape her teeth were in for a 9-year-old dog. No extractions. We have updated her vaccinations and inserted a Home Again microchip. We have not mentioned to Angel that we think she is a little chubby (80#) and it is likely that the thyroid supplementation will help with the bulk of the needed weight loss. She adores going for walks and has been known to participate in a game of chase with the other collies in her foster home. She looks forward to breakfast and dinner which are both portion controlled and she licks her bowl clean. No surprise there. She loves the comfort of a cushy dogbed. She tells you when she needs to go out and go potty but she has also mastered the dog door. Other dogs are just fine with her but people are what she craves. Men and women make her smile but you should see her light up when a child walks in the room. Perhaps there were kids in her previous home and she longs for that kind of companionship again. In any case, Angel is one remarkable dog and she needs a very special family to share her life with.
