Edith is the sweetest girl! She is her foster mamma's shadow and never wants to be with out her foster mom and dad. Edith loves giving kisses. She's a s hort little lady so when she wants to give you a kiss, but can't get to your face, you'll get a little dog kiss on the leg. Edith has had no accidents and seems fully potty trained. Edy loves to be outside with her foster brother and sister in the fenced yard. I think she will need a fenced yard as she will sometimes not come when her name is called.  Edith likes walks, even though she is a little slow, it gives her more time to sniff everything. For an older lady, she has lots of spunk! She has a little barking problem. Edith is a little scared of noises and is barking to warn her foster family. We are working on it now and she is getting much better! Edith is placed in a crate at night, but also loves to sleep in her foster mom and dad's bed. It so comfy! Snuggling and being close is her favorite. When in her crate, she likes to be close to where we are. During the day when her foster mom and dad are at work, she is gated in the kitchen with  some water and a nice dog bed and is very content. She has not gotten in to anything or chewed anything. She has been offered chewies but does not seem interested. This little lady has had a rough life but still shows much love to all humans, no matter who they are. There are no cats in our home so I'm not sure how she will be with cats. But Edith loves her foster brother and sister. She is starting to become playful with her foster sister and seems to ignore her foster brother. She is not a chewer nor does she really play with toys. She just loves her humans! Edith also likes human food. We are working on her manners and has jumped up on our coffee table to grab a bite of food. Again, we are working on her manners. Edith would be great in a home where she could receive lots of love and attention. A home that enjoys walks and being outside in the nice fresh air.  We have discovered that she does have seizures but they are kept under control with medication.  Her medication is about $30 a month and she will require quarterly vet appointments for blood draws in order to renew her medication.  Other then that she is very healthy!

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
