Facts about Esmeralda

  • Breed: Calico
  • Color: Brown Or Chocolate (Mostly)
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Esmeralda was one of 4 Calico's that came to us as strays a couple years back. Very shy and timid, they have slowly become comfortable in their environment. Esmeralda and her sister Druella are the 2 left. They each need adopters that will not put time restrictions on their adjustment period. Esmeralda was adopted several months ago and her adopter PROMISED that she would have the time needed. After a week he was threatening and said that he couldn't have a cat in his house that wasn't sociable. Even the most social cats take time in new environments. The mother and daughter were in tears when they brought her back and Esmeralda was absolutely terrified of the man. She acclimated back to the free roaming room within minutes. The point is she needs a loving, non-stressful environment so she can learn trust and become a long time friend.

About Goshen Humane Society, Inc.

About Our Shelter...

We are a small no-kill cat and dog shelter. We raise over 70% of what it costs us to survive. We have volunteers however we do have a regular staff that works 7 days a week - all part timers. Our physical building has been in existence for 14 years. Before that GHS worked on a foster care system. We spay/neuter ALL animals before leaving, except for those with medical conditions that it would endanger their lives to do so. We try to educate the public that instead of sending their animals to shelters to exhaust all other possibilities. We also try to educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. We are always looking for committed volunteers to work with our animals and to help fundraise throughout the year.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have events throughout the year, however the best place to see our animals is at our shelter located at 44 Police Drive in Goshen, NY. We are presently open to the public Thursday - Tuesday 11:00-3:00pm. We are closed to the public on Wednesdays. You can also see pictures and bios on our website, FB, and PETFINDER & PETESTABLISHED.

Our Adoption Process...

Fees are on our website and can vary based on age, breed and what expenses we incur. Must submit an application for a cat or dog and provide Veterinary and personal references. Dog adoptions take longer so that we make sure the fit is right and adopters understand the commitment. If we have multiple applications, it may take longer. Important to give your Veterinarian and personal references the "heads up" that we will be contacting them. If Veterinary reference is very good, we may not need to contact references. In some cases a home visit may be required.
