My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is MacDuff! My name is Scottish because I'm a Scottish Terrier/Standard Dachshund mix. I'm a young 15-month old dog that loves people and is very playful. I have a long Dachshund body with a face and a coat like a Scottish Terrier. I'm about 30 pounds so that makes me a perfectly medium sized dog! I’m not very tall so my weight is made up for in a long body and sturdy frame. I have rugged good looks if I do say so myself and I make friends wherever I go. I am a personable chap and my unique appearance attracts a lot of new friends which I quite enjoy. I am low shedding which I’m told is nice. I’m not hypoallergenic though so anyone with severe allergies may react to me.

I was an unclaimed stray at a rural pound and the good people of Pound Dog Rescue brought me into their care. I was so happy! I was covered in fleas and had a bad skin rash because of flea allergy when I was found. The good people at my rescue got me all cleaned up and now I am flea free, have been bathed with a medicated shampoo to clear up my rash, and am on a quality food to help with my dry fur. I also got neutered and all vet checked and vaccinated and the vet says I’m a healthy boy now.

Although I'm pretty young, I am quite chill in the house. I am crate trained (although I whine a bit when I'm first put in my crate) and I am totally house trained. I love, love, love to play fetch too! I am quiet in the house but would love to run like crazy in your fenced in backyard to play ball! It's my favourite. Because I am a bit of a flight risk, I need a home with a fully fenced in yard. I love hanging out in the yard with my people and it’s so fun to run around with my ball!

I also really, really love walks!! I follow my nose a lot too. I am nice to people I see on walks but I really react badly when I see bicycles and skateboards. I wasn't well socialized with other dogs in my previous home and will bark and growl at dogs whose energy is also excited. I am calm and curious when I meet calm dogs, though. I will need someone experienced with training dogs, particularly terriers, who can help me with me nervousness of skateboards and bikes, and who can help me behave better around other dogs. My foster mom says I give what I get with other dogs…I can be calm and nice with calm and nice dogs, but if the other dog is barky or active or gives me attitude then I get all defensive and bark back at them. I sound scary but it’s all a front. Still, my rescue people say I need to keep working on this. I will need a home without another dog in it as I would like to be the only dog in the home.

I am being fostered with these curious creatures called cats. I am pretty good around them but sometimes when I'm excited, I lunge at them to play. They don't like that. Neither does my foster mom. I am quickly corrected when that happens. I would probably be best in a home without the crazy temptation of cats!

I've met kids and I am good with them if they are a bit older, like 8 years and up. I like to play ball so kids are great companions. I let kids take the ball from my mouth because I know that means they are going to throw it!! Yay!

I love car rides! In the car, I get to lie in the back seat. Sometimes I sit up and look out the window. Most of the time, I lie and sleep in the back. Being in the car is nice and soothing and makes me sleep. I will be a great travel companion for anyone that likes road trips.

Because I am still learning how to behave, I will need a permanent home that is committed to my training. For that reason, I am really not suited for a first-time dog owner. I would be best suited for someone who has experience with terriers. We can be a little stubborn! I will need to attend dog school and learn new things and really bond with my new people. I’ve been told that terriers have a personality all to their own and I am proud of that. My foster mom says I need to go to “terrier people” because people who love terriers will “get” me and know that I’m very smart but need consistency with training as we can get easily distracted and often have better things to do.

If you have are an experienced dog owner, have a fenced yard, kids over 8 years old, like to go for walks, are willing to continue doggie training and love to play fetch, I would love to meet you!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
