My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Howie. I’m a 1 year old Westie / Shih Tzu mix looking for my forever home. I’m a small dog and only weigh 15lbs. I was found as a stray and ended up at the pound where I was never claimed. My foster parents aren’t sure why as I’m so cute and loveable and all I want to do is please my foster parents. It’s probably for the best though because now I can live in a home where I will never be allowed to run loose and get lost again! What makes me special? Well, let me tell you.

I love going on walks. I walk well on a leash however when I see a squirrel, rabbit, or bird I get a bit excited. I’m intrigued by other dogs I meet on my walks but don’t make a big fuss over them, I just keep on walking. Before I cross the road, I’m learning to stop and sit every time until I’m told it’s okay to cross. Walks in town as well as on trails in wooded parks are both great! In town I walk on a regular leash but in the park I get to walk on my extend-a-leash where I have a bit more freedom to roam. I also love to run, if you have a fenced in yard that would be great so I can run all I want!

My toys are some of my favourite things! If you throw one my toys I will bring it back to you and even hand it to you for you throw again. I also love playing tug of war with my toys but am upset when I win and immediately hand it back to you so we can play again. Car rides are another one of my favourite things. Looking out the window is so much fun! I ride well in the back seat, or the front seat, wherever you would like me is fine. I’m just happy to be with you. Cuddling with you on the couch and getting pet is also great! I will sit still while you brush me and also don’t mind getting baths. I am a very patient guy and will let you do pretty much anything to me.

My foster parents aren’t sure if I was house trained before or not. I rarely ever bark. I’m pretty quiet guy. I have had a few accidents in the house but am getting much better. I’m learning new things every day! I have learned how to sit and stay and am working on down. At night I sleep in my kennel and am learning that it’s a safe place to be. I get a treat every time I go in my kennel, so it’s not so bad. I also go in my kennel while my foster parents are away. When I’m left alone I cry, even if you just leave me to get something outside. I’m working on this but I just love people so much I want to be around you all the time! I follow my foster parents around the house and will sit at your feet while you do the dishes, barge into the bathroom uninvited, and cuddle with you on the couch. I just want all the love and affection I can get.

I have been thoroughly checked out by the vet and given a clean bill of health. I would be a good dog for a family willing to give me lots of attention and play with me as I have lots of energy. Sometimes I jump up but stop as soon as I’m told. My new family will need to continue this training especially if there are young children in my new family. I’m not being fostered in a home with children but my foster parents think I would be fine with children over the age of 6. I am very gentle, patient, and affectionate. As for a home with other pets, dogs would be okay but perhaps not cats as I might want to chase them. I am pretty laid back and easy to live with guy. My foster parents are always telling me how I’m a good boy and this makes me happy. I would be thrilled to find my forever home. Is that you?
