Alvin's Story...
Alvin is an adult Shih Tzu recently rescued from life in a puppy mill. He came to us with his Shih Tzu friend, Bea, and they are both very sweet dogs. Because he has only lived in a cage until this point, he is pretty timid and will need time to adjust. Right now, Alvin is content to sit and watch the world as an observer, not an active participant. Based on vet estimates, we believe he is between 4-7 years old. He’s still learning about walking on a leash, housebreaking, and everything else involved in being a dog. Because of his timid personality, we are recommending Alvin go to an adult-only home.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Alvin, a New York Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in New York, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in New York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in New York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a New York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in New York paves the way for another one to be saved.
