My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?

MayDay! - Like the distress signal used by ships and aircraft. My foster mom likes to draw out the first syllable to get my attention, like “MaaaayDay!” I’m hoping my signal will reach out to someone who gives me a forever home - a safe place to land!

How old are you?

I’m pretty sure I’m a young 5 months old!

What do you look like?

I’m kind of adorable - and it gets me out of more trouble than it should! I have some slate blue eyes, and I’m white enough to notice the mud all over my paws, with some big blue body spots, and that little bean shape spot on my head. Sometimes my ears go all the way up - sometimes they remind people of Yoda!

What do you like to eat?

I’m not super picky. I will chew crunchier treats very thoroughly and take most treats very gently! Small, stinky, training treats are the best - maybe because I get to learn, too? Stuffed kongs and bully sticks don’t always interest me in my crate.

What kind of personality do you have?

I am pretty sassy and very sweet. I have a fair share of energy, but would really like to calm down and relax pretty often. If there is something to do though, I’m game! And if you don’t want to play my games, I might have something to say about it. ;)

Describe your perfect day:

I don’t mind sleeping in - maybe waking up around 8 or 9, potty break and then working for my breakfast! I like learning new things and I’m a quick learner. A short play session with a frisbee in the yard and then a little play with a doggie friend before a nice long midday nap. Then can we do it all over again?

What is your favorite toy?

It’s hard to choose just one! I really like those frisbees because they roll so fast and I can really chase them and bite them! Sometimes I even get to tug on them and that is a blast. Balls are OK, but a lot harder to play tug with!

Do you know any tricks?

Some say it isn’t a trick, but I do know how to sit and lay down. I am also pretty great at bringing toys back to you after you throw them! We can play tug (I even know how to “drop it”) or you can throw it again! I respond to my name really well and I’m even pretty great at coming when called. My foster mom isn’t worried about me running away.

What scares you?

Nothing seems to phase me! Loud booms in the sky, flailing children, stairs, sirens, barking dogs, vacuums and even that machine my foster mom uses to blow her hair around are just fine with me.

Do you like cats?

They sound like something I would like! I’ve never met one that I can remember, and sometimes I can be a little bit of a pest with other animals that I want to play with, but it is puppy stuff and I am not very stubborn about it. If you could redirect my attention elsewhere so that I don’t worry a kitty, I bet we could be best friends!

Do you have any doggie best friends?

Holy cow yes! My best pal is this little Border Collie / Cattle Dog mix that likes to make noise like me and roll around. Sometimes I squish him a little but sometimes he squishes me too! I have a really great pal who is a few times my size that likes to run and flop around just like me, too!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I really like to be inside with people and laying on the cool floor. I think beds are pretty nifty, but my foster mom tries to discourage me from cuddling in bed in case my new family doesn’t like that. (I don’t really think I should go to those people, though…)

How is your health?

I’m healthy as a horse! I had a little cough when I first came to live with the rescue, but it didn’t last long and I have no ill effects from it - you’d never know, now!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?

I live with one female human, three male canines and a female canine. My closest companion is a male canine, with my female human a really really close second!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

My foster mom is pretty sure I could get myself into trouble inadvertently. I don’t seek out things to destroy, but sometimes you just end up with a rug in your mouth, you know? I have a plastic airline crate that keeps me (and my foster mom’s stuff) safe while she is away.

Where do you sleep?

Because I’m still pretty young and inexperienced at this “no chewing” and “house training” thing, my foster mom wants to make sure I succeed, so I always go into my crate at night with a cookie to sleep - and while I may whine for a minute, I always settle right down and sleep through the night.

What do you love about your foster family?

It’s so cool that I get to take lots of trips with my foster mom and canine friends to new places. We visit new parks to play in where I can meet new people, and I get to meet new dogs that my human works with, too! We are always up to something and always learning new things!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?

Well there wasn’t a whole lot of it, I’m still pretty young! I heard that my original family couldn’t take care of me anymore because they got into some trouble and had to move away. I am just really glad they contacted such a cool place to make sure I find the best home ever! I know it’s out there, but until I find it - I’m really digging my foster home and I’m cool to hang out here while waiting!

If you are interested in adopting MayDay, please fill out an application at www.evenchance.org/adopt and we will be in touch!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
