Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mama Susie is an 8-year-old chi who came to Texas Chihuahua Rescue from anmal care services with 3 tiny pups. Mama Susie could not understand and was inconsolable after her puppies became sick and died. She cringed, trembling, and cried whenever anyone reached out to pet her. She became wide-eyed in terror and tried to bite in fear when anyone tried to hold her.
Mama Susie improved slowly over many weeks. Her eyes became less fearful as she gradually gained trust. She cowered and trembled a little less every day. Finally she came out of her crate and cautiously approached to be petted. After only a few pets, she ran back to her crate, but each time she came out of her crate for petting she stayed a little longer.
Finally, Mama Susie put her paws up in the air to be held. Although she squeaked in fear and stiffened when she was first placed in her foster mom's lap, she stayed to be held and petted and each time rrelaxed more quickly and stayed in the lap longer.
Today, Mama Susie is still shy and prefers to spend most of her time in her crate, watching her foster mom, but she is not trembling now and her soft brown eyes shine with love. She jumps up when she wants to be held and falls asleep in perfect peace.
Mama Susie should not go to a home with children who would frighten her by moving quickly or making loud noises. She gets along with other little dogs but is frightened by big ones who express interest.
Mama Susie is waiting for a loving, gentle, and patient person who is knowledgeable in The Way of the Chi (has experience with the breed) and will allow her as much time as she needs to feel safe and gain trust. She will return the love and patience with her whole little heart.
