Facts about OTIS

  • Breed: Boxer/Labrador Retriever Mix
  • Color: Brindle
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
OTIS was rescued by Fido's Companion Rescue from a kill pound. He was taken into Westpark Animal Hospital and fully evaluated, vaccinated and neutered.. Poor Otis was skin and bones - starving to death. His appetite was poor and his head had a right sided tilt. He appeared to have given up on life. After he was here at ISHAS for 8 days he vomited a dog collar, which was starting to digest. This had been in his stomach for weeks before he arrived here. This poor boy had been so hungry he ate his own dog collar while running the streets.. We rushed him into Westview Vet. Hospital for X-rays to make sure nothing else was in his stomach. OTIS 'S stomach and intestines were clear. We feel the good diet jarred the collar loose and Thank God he was able to vomit it up without surgery. Otis is now steadily gaining weight and has already gained 10 Lbs. He is looking good. His head tilt ( we think) was caused by a severe untreated ear infection. Westpark Animal Hospital started him on antibiotics and ear meds and the head tilt is starting to diminish. He is a lovable old guy and the spark of life is back in his eyes. The ONLY thing OTIS wants is a FUREVER HOME, that will spoil him and NEVER starve him or let him run alone to fend for himself.
If you want a WONDERFUL - LOVING BOY --- OTIS is the one for you.

About Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

To provide a safe and healthy environment for elderly, infirmed, terminal animals and to assist animal shelters with over-population of animals in need of care due to their inability to provide it, and un-adoptable animals, by providing a forever home where they can live out their lives in peace and in good health. In some cases, we do have adoptable animals, that we are trying to find good homes for.

To wipe out the image and mindset that animals are disposable. To educate people to understand all that's involved in care of the animals and allow them an affordable alternative. To stress the need for affordable health treatment to all involved in the medical care of animals and make it happen!

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Policy

All applications are carefully screened by our adoption staff. With all of our adoptions, we talk with the potential adopters in detail about the animal in whom they are interested, especially if the animal has special needs.

Once an application is approved, the potential adopter is required to go through a home check. The home check ensures that the dog/cat is going into a safe and comfortable environment and that the adoption is the right fit for the dog/cat and the potential adopter. The home check is done by a Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc. staff member.

The adoption donation varies per animal depending on medical cost incurred by the sanctuary.

Our adoption staff also does a follow-up after each adoption to ensure that the dog/cat is adjusting well to his/her new home and everyone is happy with the new member of the family.

Finally, we make a lifetime commitment to any animal we accept at the sanctuary. If, for any reason, an adopter can no longer care for the animal, we request that the adopter return the animal the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc.
