My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sasha: Born August 2014, female white mitted Brown Tabby and White Siberian

Sasha started life in a Siberian breeder’s home. A year and a half later, her mom brought her to a shelter due to “moving and landlord troubles”. The shelter adopted her to a active family with many children and no cat experience. She hid and was returned to the shelter within the week. The second adoption was to a single woman who brought her back even more quickly, on the third day. This woman who lived right in the landing flight path at the SF Airport wondered if the noise of the planes above scared her.

The shelter asked us if we could take her. "Yes, indeed!" we said. Poor Sasha. What a turbulent, unhappy time she had after she was left at the shelter. She arrived in her foster home polite but a bit stiff and wanting nothing but to hide under her table. We let her. She had a quiet time for a couple weeks. She ate well and used her box. It didn’t take very long really before she was coming out to ask for petting. She loves attention. She is not however confident yet. A sudden move or unexpected movement fussing with her fur can cause her to withdraw and watch you for a bit before coming back out. She is doing fine and will settle into her new home and relax back into a happy life with her new humans. It won’t take long.

Sasha is a young, healthy, beautiful, playful, and curious kitty. She is a treasure. In the photos below, you will see her white feet, bib, and chin. Have you noticed her paint brush tail??? That is the term to describe a tail that has a dollop of white on the tip as if it accidentally got dipped in a paint can. I love that.

Siberian cats originally came from Russia and are cherished as the Russian national cat. They were brought to this country recently -- in 1990. These are a very sturdy, strong-boned, healthy cats with a thick coat to keep them warm through cold winters. Their hind legs are slightly longer than their front legs giving them an especially good jumping ability despite their large, heavy build.. They are “communal cats" and I am surprised to read that a father cat will take care of the kittens as well as the mothers. (Wikipedia) Some breeding pairs will mate for life with the female only allowing the one chosen male to mate with her! There is research which shows Siberians may be more hypoallergenic than other breeds of cats, though each cat is different and each human’s response may be different.

As one of the largest cat breeds, Siberians don’t mature physically til their fourth or fifth year. Sasha is still a baby by this reckoning and is still growing up.

Sasha needs a solid, stable, loving home, a quiet home where she can bond with her humans and stay forever. She seems to be cat friendly and would probably be fine with a nice dog. Older children also might be fine. Her family needs to be patient and willing to let her to settle into their home at her own speed. She settled in to being friendly to us in her foster home quite quickly. She is a loving and affectionate girl. The attitude her new family needs to have is to feel that however long she takes to settle in and trust them is the right length of time. There is no need to worry or to push her. She’s wonderful.

Sasha eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
