From the Foster:

Snowie is a goofy, sweet, & playful pup whose compact size holds a ton of personality! She is as happy running around the yard as she is chasing her own tail in the living room, or cuddling on the couch. She is super inquisitive & likes to meet everyone she sees when out for walks in the neighborhood.

She's spunky, adorable, & can't hear a darn thing. While she doesn't seem to mind one bit, there are a few things for her forever family to keep in mind. Some are super convenient, like how she sleeps through EVERYTHING! Fireworks, other barking dogs, sirens, mail carriers, nothing.

Since she isn't disturbed by noise, whether you are trying to sneak a snack from the kitchen without canine company, play video games at unheathly volumes, or just want to sing off key to your favorite tunes without critisism, this girl is a fantasticly tollerant friend (these examples & more have been thoroughly foster tested & approved).

Despite living most of her silent life in a shelter, this adorable girl loves to meet other dogs & plays happily with anyone who will give her half a chance. Unfortunately, it's with other dogs that being deaf can be the most challenging. Sometimes other pups are not sure what to make of her vocalizations when she plays (her chirps & barks seem to be slightly "different") & she is not able to hear some of the more subtle queues other dogs give off when they need their space or don't like a certain play style.  Snowie's intentions are nothing but playful and friendly, but mis-communications happen among new friends so its best to make sure that new interactions are monitored until everyone is on the same playing field, so to speak!  Because of this, it's best that she always have a human to supervise her when with other dogs until a solid friendship has been established.

Mis-communications also seem more regular with cats given the reserved ways in which they communicate - so we do not recommend anything besides the most dog savvy, laid back kitties for this girl, if any at all.

Snowie has made several friends since coming to SHH & currently lives with 4 other dogs, with whom she is already great friends, but that doesn't mean she isn't independent. As much as she enjoys her buddies, she also spends a good deal of time playing with toys, chasing her own tail, & otherwise amusing herself. She isn't even the least bit destructive when left alone, but she also does fine in a kennel though she does bark periodically if she has line of sight to someone she feels should be freeing her from captivity!

This lovely little lady is smart & observant so with hand signals & consistency she can learn just about anything a dog with good hearing can learn. She may not come when called but she knows that if someone waves at her, she should run over for some pets & since she adores attention, it's pretty easy to get hers!

All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.

If you live in MN, WI, IA, SD, ND, or IL and would like to meet/adopt this animal or anyone else, then please fill out an adoption application at  and the foster(s) will be in touch!  Keep in mind that there may be multiple applicants applying for the same animal(s).   You only need to complete 1 application for multiple animals that you're interested in.

Note  - We change an animal's listing to say "PENDING ADOPTION" when they already had a meet and greet with a family who plans to adopt   that animal.  We put "NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS" on a listing when an animal has multiple applications in and the foster has asked to stop accepting any more while they review the applications they've already received.
