Hi, I’m Max, a very handsome 85 lb male German Shepherd. Although I’m almost 6 years old, I still have the exuberance and playfulness of a puppy at times. I have a high energy level and need at least an hour of walking and 30 minutes of fetch/playtime before I’m good to relax and sleep for the remainder of the day. I love any sort of outdoor activity and would prefer an active home where I can join my family on hikes and other adventures. I am super loving and affectionate with my family and their friends but true to my breed, I am very protective of my home when strangers come to the door. You will never have to worry about unwanted intruders with me around to keep you safe.
Away from my home I love everyone I meet - I am truly a social butterfly. One of my favorite things is meeting new people and dogs at the dog park, especially those who are willing to throw my ball for me (people, not dogs, of course). I also love to show off my tricks for treats - I can sit, lay down, play dead and my personal favorite, playing hide and seek.
I grew up in a household where I have been much loved and well cared for and where there was never a shortage of cuddle time. I haven't spent much time around young children but when I have their high energy and sudden moves scared me a bit so a home without these squeaky creatures would suit me best.
As much as it breaks her heart to give me up, my owner needs to do so for a number of reasons. I have some socialization, anxiety and protectiveness issues that she has not been able to correct on her own because of her passive personality. To make things even harder, my owner is recently single and I am showing even more protectiveness around her now that there is no strong male presence in the home. My owner has been tirelessly working to keep me socialized and I have been improving daily as a result. But she is no longer able to give me the time and attention I need. It is important for me to be with an confident, assertive owner who has the patience and experience to handle my over-protectiveness and who will provide me with the daily physical and mental stimulation to thrive and to be the best dog I can be.
I am hoping some kind hearted soul will recognize what a loving and loyal companion I am and be willing to give me a second chance at a loving home. I am very healthy, house trained and I walk well on and off leash. I am neutered and up to date on all my vaccinations. My adoption fee is $350.

About Home at Last Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Home at Last Dog Rescue is a small group of volunteer animal lovers whose goal is to help homeless, neglected and abused dogs find caring and responsible homes.

Our volunteers are dedicated individuals who have joined together to form a new rescue group. We are commited to helping dogs in need and to provide them a second chance at a happy life.

Our dogs are not kept in a shelter. We depend on the support of caring and compassionate people to care for our dogs until we can find them permanent, loving homes. We provide vet care and rehabilitation to all of our dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog, the first step is to search through the list of our dogs currently available for adoption. All dogs remain on Adoptapet and our website (homeatlastdogrescuebc.ca) until an adoption is finalized so all dogs listed may be applied for.

Our job is to find the right home for each of our dogs. We will contact you to arrange for a home check at your convenience. Unfortunately, many of our applications are rejected, not necessarily because there is anything wrong with the home, but because it is not the right match for the dog. Following a successful home visit, we will arrange for you to meet the dog, usually in their foster home. At that time, you will decide if you would like to adopt the dog.

Before an adoption can be finalized, we will ask you to sign an adoption contract. Depending on the dog’s personality you may be asked to visit the dog once or twice before taking him or her home. This will be most common with shy, timid dogs. Outgoing and confident dogs can most often be taken home after the first meeting. Documentation for each dog will be provided upon adoption. Adopters must be ready to pick up their adopted dog home as soon as they have been approved and have agreed to adopt the dog. Home At Last Dog Rescue BC cannot hold dogs for people who have applied but are not yet ready to accept the dog into their home.

Please note: an adoption fee is required for successful applications. The adoption fee is non-refundable, even if the dog is subsequently returned. Home At Last Dog Rescue BC will always take back one of our dogs for any reason, and without question. Adoption fees for our dogs vary. The price varies based on the age and medical needs of the dog being adopted; costs are judged on a case by case basis.
