My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Merlina is a big, beautiful pup who is about 2 years old. I LOVE this wonderful gentle giant of a dog!

Since I could not even come close to figuring out what this beautiful girl is mixed with, I had a DNA test run on her. Well, I was sure in for a great surprise!

Merlina’s DNA test shows her dominant breed is a Catahoula Leopard Dog, and her secondary breed is a Labrador Retreiver.

Catahoulas have been bred primarily for temperament and ability rather than for appearance, which explains why they come in all sorts of colors.

Merlna’s coat is cream and white. She is strong, sleek, and short-coated. She isn’t a big shedder at all, so you won’t see hair all over your house!

Catahoula leopard Dogs are very rare, so I looked in their breed traits.

They are described as inquisitive, gentle, energetic, intelligent, and loving.

Catahoulas are highly intelligent and energetic. They are assertive but not aggressive by nature, and tend to be very even tempered.

Since Merlina is a blend of Catahoula and Lab, she doesn’t have any of the exaggerated traits of a pure-bred dog. She is an all-around great girl! One of my favorite things about lovely Merlina is that she is unique.

Merlina weighs about 60 pounds, but for some reason, she seems bigger – maybe it’s because she has a big presence and personality!

Merlina is active, but not hyper. She is very smart, tolerant, good-natured, affectionate, and eager to please. She would be the best buddy in the world for someone who is active and athletic.

She is completely house-trained. She sleeps either on the cool tile floor in house on hot days or on the deck on cooler days. At night, she loves to sleep on her own little chaise lounge I have in the bedroom. She is also crate trained – in fact, she loves her crate and considers it her own little get-away.

Merlina is wonderful with other dogs, big and small, and is delightful to watch as she tosses her toys in the air, chases her tennis ball, and plays with my other fosters and.

She loves her humans, and gets along very well with children and even with farm animals!
She comes when she is called and never wanders off – she is a great companion dog and will make a fine buddy!

Merlina was a stray dog and was in pretty sad shape when she was rescued: she was malnourished (just skin & bones!), but still very sweet and eager to learn and play.

When she was a puppy, she had some sort of “puppy acne,” which left spots on her body, but she’s had a vet check and is completely healed and healthy now.

She loves being outdoors and would be a super hiking, running, camping pal. She also loves riding in the car.

She is spayed and up to date on all of her shots, and just a truly good natured, loving, wonderful big baby.

Merlina deserves a good home – she is SO nice and loving, and needs someone to love her back!
