My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. Prince is the kind of pup who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet (while being initially just a bit shy) and truly kind with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a dog like Prince is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space or on the streets hiding in the shadows. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Prince from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special pup. Prince was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, neutered, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Prince...just about 18 - 24 months old and 12 - 14 lbs. This is such a perfect size to be able to accompany his family just about anywhere and then fit perfectly onto a loving lap. Prince is such a happy and loving guy.. and one of the sweetest dogs that we've ever brought into Farfel's Rescue.

The following is from Prince's Denver foster mom:
It is amazing to see how filled with love Prince is. He is also the happiest dog I've ever known. When we take him for walks in the the field, he can run the fastest and longest of all of our 8 dogs...most of the time on three legs. NOTE: Prince received surgery on his back leg in late April when we found 5 fractures. It was a complete success! For the first time, Prince is using his leg and is completely out of pain!
Prince just cannot stop expressing how happy he is with his life. His beautiful tail wags constantly and he always has a huge crooked smile on his adorable face. My whole family absolutely loves Prince and wishes we could keep him. A ninth dog just doesn't seem possible. Prince will absolutely be the most wonderful addition to any family.

Prince is a very special gift and will always fit right in due to his great temperament. He is already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. Prince was one of the extremely lucky young dogs to show great promise in his socialization skills at a very early age. The US rescuers couldn't help but fall in love with Prince! We all had a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving guy in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

We would like to see Prince in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and of course some lap or couch-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart guy like Prince and teaches them the skills to become a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Prince would be a wonderful companion for a family with dog-loving older kids. He would also be thrilled with the time and attention that active retirees would shower on him. Prince would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.

Prince was identified as a Schnauzer/Terrier mix by his Tijuana rescuer (you have to love those amazing ears!). Breed mixes are always a bit difficult to determine with certainty, but we can see both of these adorable and engaging breeds in this very sweet dog.

Prince is a non-shedding guy with the most amazing coat. The silver, black and pure white that runs through his hair enhances the beauty of this wonderful dog. Prince will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep his hair healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free.

Prince is in a Denver foster home getting tons of love. Applications are currently being accepted and Meet and Greets are being scheduled for our very sweet pup. If interested in this adorable ...and very fun and entertaining best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
