My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arf arf! That means, "hi! My name is Adira and I will snuggle my way into your heart!" I am rather shy with new people, so it may take more than one meeting to get to know me, but once I'm comfortable, I am a wriggly, playful, and happy gal. I recently moved to a new foster home, and had to touch-up my potty training after the move. I may need a little practice touch-up again when I move into my furever home, and I would love a fenced backyard.

I used to have to live outside, so it's no wonder that I love to be cozy, wear sweaters and burrow into my foster family's bed at night where I sleep. I can sometimes be a little bit bossy about sharing spaces and people with new dogs, but I have been practicing sharing and am learning fast. I would do best in a home with a calm dog that is OK with sharing, or I would also do OK learning to be the queen of the castle in my new home! I love to snooze and go on walks with my canine foster brother, and I am very respectful and ignore my foster home's cat. I also like to go on car rides and take trips to the dog park. I have not lived with children, but am OK with children as long as they understand I need a little time and space to trust. I am OK being kenneled when my foster family is at work, but they have been leaving me out to free roam and I prefer this.

Adira is estimated to be 3 years old and weighs 25 lbs. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday January 7, 2016, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
