My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dude: 5-1/2-yr-old male yellow Lab, 80 lbs

Watch Dude's video by clicking on the link above the pictures.
Dude comes to our Lab Rescue program through an unfortunate turn of events… After knee surgery in early 2016, Dude lost the use of both of his rear legs and was recently diagnosed by UC Davis as being paralyzed in his hind end. He gets around each day on a two-wheeled cart, when he is not “relaxing” in his living room or on his back patio near his humans. His current owners have worked hard to see to Dude’s needs for the past few months, but they are unable to provide long-term continued care for him.

What Dude’s Rescue Rep says: Dude is an engaging, delightful lab that just wants to find his new rhythm. He loves his frequent cart-walks around the neighborhood – and has become accustomed to the harness/rig. Got things to see… got things to smell… got dogs to meet… While it might be difficult to observe, Dude will pull himself around by his front feet to get to where he needs to go -- carpeted surfaces are ideal for allowing him to move about. The biggest challenge is attending to Dude’s need to urinate every few hours and defecate during the day. He is friendly and playful towards all dogs and people… and cats. We are hoping very much that there is a special someone out there that can open up their heart and home to provide the care that Dude needs. Dude is located with his current owners in Hayward.

If you are interested in Dude, call Rescue Rep Dave, 415-686-4248.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
