My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

As you may know, each Pokemon has special abilities. Squirtle likes to play in the water, and would certainly enjoy a day at the beach. In fact, he would enjoy any day as long as he can spend it with people! Like his twin brother Charmander, he is very friendly and out-going. He loves people and loves being held. He also plays nicely with his siblings and other adult dogs.

Based on appearance--look at those ears!! --we think he is a hound mix, maybe Beagle or Treeing Walker Coonhound. Since this is just a guess, only those willing to take pot-luck in terms of his ultimate breed and size should apply. But he is definitely a hound, which means he would be a good choice for an active family. Hounds are smart and affectionate, and make good companions and family dogs. Some breeds are easier to train than others, but all need vigorous daily exercise.

Because he is small (under 12 pounds) and young (12 weeks on 6/21), Squirtle needs a family where someone is home part or all of the day to get him potty-trained, keep him well-socialized and exercised. Puppy obedience school is also required.

You can meet Squirtle at his current foster home, Wilmette Pet Center, 625 Green Bay Rd., during normal store hours (847-251-6750, www.wilmettepetcenter.com). Though you may want to take him home on the spot, please know you will have to go through our normal application process. These pups are so cute you might be tempted to "catch 'em all," so if Squirtle is not available, take a look at his siblings!

His adoption fee of $375 includes: vet exam, DAPP (distemper combo) vaccination, bordetella vaccination, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm preventative and neuter.
