Howdy! My name is Boyd and I am a 4-year old little boy.

Let me tell you a bit about myself! I have really enjoyed this wonderful warm Minnesota weather and I take daily walks with my foster family. In fact, these daily walks are sort of more like runs. I love being outside so much that I start to run on my walks. It’s pretty cute. I have even been seen running down hills! Can you imagine these little legs running down a hill – it’s a site to see!

New people sort of still make me nervous, but I am learning more and more every day that people are nice. When you have a scary past like I have had, it takes a while to trust again. I am hoping I can find a family who will understand that I need a little extra patience to warm up to people. Once I am comfortable, I will roll over on my back for belly rubs and I really like when my foster mom scratches my bum. I think I could get used to this! My foster mom also says that I am silly and that I make her laugh every day. I could make you laugh every day, too!

I like to pick up toys and carry them around the house – it’s pretty cute. I’ve really fallen in love with toys! I LOVE other dogs and I snuggle with my foster siblings. I would like a home with another pup who will snuggle with me! I am often found cuddling with another pup in one of the dog beds. If your dog needs a cuddle buddy, I may be their guy! Also, the other dogs are teaching me to how to go to the bathroom outside and I am getting better every day!

I think with much needed patience and love, I will become the dog I was born to be. I promise if you adopt me that I will love you to the moon and back for the rest of my life!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance.

To fill out an online adoption application please visit our website     Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at 952-929-0777 or email us at for more information.

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  and fill out a foster application.

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.

About Underdog Rescue MN

About Our Rescue Group...

Underdog Rescue and Placement was founded in 2000 by Shannon McKenzie. Having volunteered for several other animal rescue organizations, Shannon saw a need to help the dogs and cats often overlooked by other rescuers, the “Underdogs”

Our very first rescues included a pair of black kittens named Fenway & Wrigley, a pitbull puppy named Lucy and a tiny Toy Poodle named Lily (who was suffering from a head injury). No other rescue groups would take Fenway or Wrigley because black kittens are often overlooked by potential adopters, and, up until the time we rescued Lucy, rescue groups had not been allowed to rescue any dog considered to be a “Pit Bull” from Minneapolis Animal Control.

While in law school, Shannon McKenzie had the “anti-pitbull” policy changed, with the assistance of Attorney, Marshall Tannick. Underdog Rescue continues to successfully rescue and place pitbulls and other “bully-breeds” through a continued partnership with Minneapolis Animal Control.

Shannon’s dedication to the Underdog also extends to puppy mill survivors. Dogs that survive life in a puppy mill often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Our volunteers understand this and welcome these pets into their homes to show them what life as a dog and life with kind humans is like.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are considering adopting one of our pets, keep in mind that we have several policies regarding placement.

We only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only on a case by case basis do we place female dogs in homes with current female dogs.
We will not place our pets in homes with unaltered animals.
We have a strict NO DECLAW policy, where adopters must agree to never declaw adopted cats. For more information on declawing and its alternatives, please visit
We have a lifetime commitment to our animals, all adopters must agree to return their pets to us if placement is not deemed successful.
We strongly encourage continued socialization and formal obedience training for all dogs under the age of eight.
If you have children younger than 5 years, and do not already have a canine in your home, understand that adding a dog or cat will be like adding a permanent 2 year old to your responsibilities. For this reason, we will only place our pets in homes with children younger than 5 on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that completing an adoption contract means you understand that all adoption fees are non-refundable.
