Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Well hello everyone my name is Bruiser! The name is somewhat ironic given I am only 28 lbs and am much more of a lover than the rambunctious type. My foster even calls me Bru Bru Bear because I like to cuddle so much. I am an adorable 10 month old guy who was returned to a pet store in Texas (originally from a puppy mill) because I have a spinal deformity causing weakness in my rear legs. And all this time I just thought it was my Texas swagger! A fellow rescuer saved me (thank you!) and contacted CEBR so here I am looking for a new family!
I am incredibly sweet, happy and I want to be next to you all the time! It doesn’t matter where you go or how tired I am I will follow you. I have two bully foster sisters who I get along with great. We sleep a lot, play sometimes and I even try to steal some of their food at dinner time. I am not really focused on toys or chewing as I rather spend my time being pet by you.
Even though my back and legs are not perfect I still get around just fine. I love to go on walks outside and have no problem with a leash! Whenever I walk by people they stop to pet me and let me know who cute I am. I’ve even had people honk their horns at me and wave. In fact, some people might like the fact I can’t jump up on the couch! While long walks on Chicago’s cement sidewalks will file down my back nails and aren’t ideal, I love being on grass and playing for hours! When I visit my foster’s niece and nephew I get to play on the grass all day with them and I love it.
I don’t take any special medicines for my condition, but am doing some physical therapy to try and strengthen my back legs. My foster also massages them when we watch TV and moves them around to keep them nice and limber. The only other medical issue I have is that because of the shape of my back I sometimes cough like a cat coughing up a hairball when I’m laying down.
Basically I am a cute young pup who walks a little wonky and is waiting for a family to permanently love me! Please give me a chance!
Our adoption criteria for Bruiser are as follows:
--Grass to exercise on is preferable to cement.
--No stairs more than 2.
--Open to special needs Bulldog.
--Carpet and rugs rather than wood floors.
