When Lexi first came to the shelter as a stray, she was terrified of just about everything. She went into a foster home and has blossomed there, but new people, places, and dogs continue to be scary. Once she trusts someone (and that takes time), she becomes a happy, playful, affectionate dog who loves attention. In a new home Lexi will take a bit more time, patience, and TLC than the average dog to adjust, feel safe and comfortable, and show her true personality. Helping her build confidence using only positive reinforcement will be essential to building a bond and trust.
Lexi is crate-trained and housebroken. She enjoys going for walks, playing with toys, and absolutely loves playing with her canine foster brothers. As with new people, Lexi is also fearful of dogs she doesn't know so dog parks are not an option. She would enjoy a sibling in her new home, but it would have to be a dog she's comfortable with. She loves to run and chase squirrels, too, but would need a fenced area to do so.
Lexi will be a wonderful companion for the right home. She will probably never be a social butterfly and needs someone who understands that and appreciates her for the loving girl she is. Lexi is best suited for a quiet, adult home where she can be doted on and helped to feel confident and safe. Experienced owner recommended, and experience with shy dogs would be even better.
