More than anything, Hero craves to connect with and please his humans. He came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control, where he was adopted as a puppy then brought back when his owners became ill and could no longer care for him. As you can imagine, he’s now anxious to find a new home, where he can resume his heroic efforts at heart-bursting love.

Hero is house trained and behaves like a perfect gentleman at home. He loves toys of the Kong, chew, and rope varieties, as well as tennis balls. Turnoffs include strangers, being left alone for extended periods of time, and loud noises. We’re working with him to help with the fearfulness and to grow his confidence.

If you’re an experienced dog owner who can provide a quiet environment in an adult-only home, and you beam at the thought of unconditional love and adoration from a furry friend, come meet Hero.

About PAWS Chicago

About Our Shelter...

PAWS Chicago is the city's largest No Kill humane organization, focused on solutions to end the killing of homeless pets. Since our founding in 1997, homeless dogs and cats killed annually in the City of Chicago has dropped more than 50 percent. PAWS Chicago is working to build a No Kill Chicago -- a city where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless.

- Bring along all family members (including children) to meet the cat/dog(s).
- Be able to take the cat/dog home on the day of adoption.
- Have the time to spend up to an hour with an adoption counselor to discuss the responsibility of owning a cat/dog and making it a lifetime commitment.

When you provide proof that your PAWS dog has completed a course, we will reimburse you the $75.00 deposit you submitted at the time of adoption.

Adoption Fee Includes:

Foster-to-Adopt Period:

The first 14 days following every adoption is considered the Foster-to-Adopt period. Foster-to-Adopt is a great way to see if a dog is a good fit for the adopter’s lifestyle. It is also a great way to see how the animal behaves in a home environment. During the 14-day Foster-To-Adopt period, if the adopter decides the adopted animal is not the right match, the adoption fee is reimbursed when the animal and their medical records are returned to PAWS Chicago.
