My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - Due to the nature of our adoption process, this foster is only able to consider forever families within 15-20 miles of zip code 75074. A vet reference and trial adoption will be done before the adoption is finalized. Thank you for your understanding.

Spencer- Cute Little Cuddler

This is Spencer. He weighs about 10 lbs. He has been aged at about 1 1/2 years, so he should not get any bigger. We believe he is a Lhasa Apso or Lhasa Apso mix.

Spencer wants nothing more in life than to sit on your lap and get petted. He is especially fond of belly rubs. He will flip over in a minute if he thinks there is any chance of getting a belly rub.

Spencer’s story is sad. He was in a home that didn’t deserve him. When he was brought to the shelter, he was very matted and it appeared as if he had been left outside. When he was surrendered to the shelter, the shelter staff asked his name. The woman who brought him in said he didn’t have one, but that her two year old called him dog-dog. She said that they could put that down for his name.

Spencer does not shed. If he is not groomed or brushed periodically, he will become matted. Currently Spencer’s hair is short because it is easier to care for; but if not cut, it will be much longer. When I brought Spencer home from the shelter I started to cut out his painful mats. He was very good even though it was a time consuming, sometimes painful task. He held pretty still except when he rolled over for belly rubs. Even though I pulled at his skin in cutting some of the mats out, he didn’t growl or bite—he was just grateful for the attention. He kept licking my hand and pushing his head under my hand to get petted. He has since been groomed by a professional.

Spencer is crate trained and well on his way to being house trained. He is pretty good about doing his business outside if you take him out regularly. Although he can use a doggy door, he is not always reliable on going outside when left to go outside on his own.

Spencer has not showed any tendency to chew on anything he shouldn’t. He is very calm in the house and loves to curl up on your lap—especially if you are in a recliner. He is a loving dog and follows me around the house waiting for the opportunity to climb up in my lap.

Although Spencer loves attention and cuddling, he does not deal well with children and will need to go to a home that does not have small children.

Spencer’s foster family lives in the 75074 zip code and due to our process of a home visit and trial before adoption her potential new family must live within 15-20 miles of that zip code.

Foster Homes are needed in order to help more animals like this one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal. Check out our website on how to become a Foster Parent! Visit www.FurryFriendsAnimalRescue.org and look under HOW TO HELP. Furry Friends provides veterinary care - you provide the home and love!.

We also need Volunteers for Adoption Events at Petsmart and Cage Cleaners.

Anyone interested in our dogs must be over 21. We are only able to adopt to homes within a reasonable driving distance of the dog's foster home and please be prepared for a home visit by one of our volunteers. We do not adopt on first-come-first-served basis, we want to make sure the dog is right for the family and vice versa based on what we know about the dog's personality, habits and behaviors. Our adoption fee for dogs is $175. You can complete an online adoption application on our website http://www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org- we will get back with you asap.
