Gizmo, 3 yr old male yorkie mix *special needs (click on pic for details prior to calling)* -
Gizmo was abused, and taunted, and teased with food and toys by his previous owners. When he decided he didn't want to put up with it anymore, he began to show aggression. He came to us with what is called severe "resource guarding". We've had him a very long time, and he's never bitten any of our volunteers, however, he must be kept on the program we've had him on for the last year. He is thriving now, and he loves his newfound happiness. His reactive behavior is only going to be an issue to those who cannot follow our directions as far as which toys he can have etc. He now shares and hands toys to his handler, and waits to get them back! Gizmo is in need of a patient, responsible handler who is willing to keep him on the schedule and program that he loves. Gizmo knows sit, lay down, and is pretty good on leash. He is fully house trained, and is really fun to have around. His requirements are non negotiable and they include : fully fenced in yard, no children, no other dogs. If you meet his requirements, please call us for a phone consult at (586)690-2808

About Mutts of Motown

About Our Rescue Group...

Mutts of Motown is a very small Detroit based rescue. Our goal is to save dogs and some cats who are in danger, abused, abandoned or neglected. Because we are so small and due to lack of funding and foster homes, we work with many 501 c-3 non profit groups who often take in many of our Detroit rescues. Sometimes we provide care, spays, neuters, straw, dog houses and even dog food to those who need it and cannot afford it, or refuse to provide it for their pets. Because of the great numbers of animals being killed in our shelters nationwide we urge you to fix your pets and urge your government officials to change laws about backyard and basement breeding as well as passing spay and neuter laws nationwide. We believe with these laws in place shelters wouldn't be needed in a few years. California has some of these laws in place now. We should follow this example and stop allowing our tax dollars to go towards the killing of unwanted animals.

Donate to Our Rescue Group...

All monetary donations must go to our Vet - Rakestraw Animal Hospital (20241 Van Dyke St, Detroit MI 48234 (313) 366-8853)) to the Mutts of Motown Rescue account. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT OUR VET FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN TO DONATE TO OUR ACCOUNT. THEY ARE NOT INVOLVED IN OUR RESCUE'S BUSINESS AND ARE VERY KIND TO OUR RESCUE DOGS. For other types of donations like food, supplies, etc. please call us at 586 690 2808 to leave us a message and arrange a pick-up.

Our Adoption Process...

Please click on the pet you're interested in and read his/her profile and requirements prior to calling us for a phone consult. If the pet's profile states no children, a fenced yard, etc. these are requirements, not suggestions. All requirements will be verified during application screening and at the time of the required home visit. Please be patient when waiting for a call back as we're all volunteers. The number to call can be found in each pet's profile. Regrettably, we cannot do rescue business via text, facebook or email, so a volunteer who knows the dog in question will return your call at their earliest convenience. All of our dogs are fully and thoroughly evaluated in foster homes prior to being available for adoption. WOOF!
