Facts about Filbert & Nigella

  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: 16-01-54/55
  • Hair: Short
Filbert and Nigella are a bonded pair of guinea pigs who would like to become part of your family! Nigella is about 2 years old and is tan, brown, black and white. She is extremely curious and will start wheeking loudly if she thinks it is snack time. Filbert, who is neutered, is about a year old. He is black, white and brown, and coming out of his shell but is still a little shy. He loves attention and lap time. Sadly, they came into the Rescue with a friend, but she was older and had congestive heart failure, which led to her recent passing.

The piggies were saved after their owner posted a notice on the Internet that they would be left behind in a vacant house after the family moved. A kind-hearted person took them in and provided vet care in the interim but could not keep them permanently.

Filbert and Nigella have an excellent appetite and enjoy fresh vegetables, piles of hay and Oxbow Cavy Performance pellets every day. The pair will need to live in a Cubes and Coroplast cage of at least 2 cubes by 4 cubes and be in a family part of the house so everyone can enjoy their company. We also ask that anyone adopting her lives a reasonable driving distance from Rockville, MD.

The adoption fee for Filbert and Nigella will be $80. If you are interested in finding out more about adopting this sweet pair of guinea pigs, please send an e-mail to

About Small Angels Rescue Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Small Angels was founded in fall of 2003 when the organizers recognized a need for a group to help small animals abandoned at animal shelters. The Rescue was founded as a way to move these animals into foster homes for socialization and proper, attentive care, as well as streamline the adoption process and provide accurate, thorough information to adopters about these often misunderstood animals.

Small Angels is a 501(3)(3) nonprofit, no‐kill, all‐volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming guinea pigs, rats, mice, hamsters and gerbils. Animals are acquired directly via public surrenders and from local shelters and animal welfare groups. We use an extensive network of foster homes to care for the animals until we can find them a forever home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Small Angels Rescue does not have a physical shelter—we care for animals through our network of foster care homes. We have monthly adoption events at the Frederick Petco and various Bark locations in Montgomery County. Not all breeds are brought to adoption events. Most adoptions take place at the animal's foster home or at an animal coordinator's house.

Our Adoption Process...

Small Angels Rescue’s adoption process is straightforward. Adopters must fill out an adoption application. There is an application for guinea pigs and a separate application for other animals. Once we have the completed application, we interview the adopter by phone or e-mail to clear up any questions and concerns about the application—including whether the adopter meets our cage requirements and has the proper supplies—and to ensure that the adopter has all of the information needed to properly care for the animal. At the time of adoption, adopters must sign an adoption contract.

Adoption fees: Mice, Gerbils, Hamsters & Rats: $10 each for the first three animals, then $5 each thereafter. Guinea Pigs: $35 each unaltered, $45 neutered males, $55 spayed females.
