Sapphire enjoys basking in tâhe sun, munching flowers, and sniffing toes. Sapphire is just one example of the many homeless pet desert tortoises available for adoption. Desert tortoises are sweet and gentle pets that must live outdoors in a backyard with a few requirements like edible tortoise plants.
Unsterilized females may lay sterile or fertilized eggs. Purposefully incubating eggs only adds to pet overpopulation. Egg binding issues are possible but very rare. These issues make unsterilized females generally harder to adopt. All unaltered females adopted will be put on a list for sterilization in the future.
If you live in Nevada near Las Vegas, Pahrump, Reno, or Carson, Tortoise Group invites you to visit our website and fill out an Adoption Application. Due to federal and state laws Tortoise Group is only able to adopt to residents of Nevada. Tortoise Group is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization since 1982.
If you indicate a specific tortoise after you submit an application, we will do our best to match you up with the indicated tortoise. Due to size issues and habitat issues, not all tortoises are suitable for every yard.

NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply.
