.Hi! I’m Felicia! I run and hop like a deer but i'm just not as graceful as one which makes me fun to watch if you need a good laugh!

I’m very excited to be living with a Ruff Start Rescue foster family! Once upon a time, I had a family of my own but things kept changing and pretty soon, I ended up at a place called a shelter. I heard I was at risk of something called “euthanasia” until a nice lady from Ruff Start Rescue took me home in a car. She said I’d be living with her until I find the family I will have forever and ever.

When I got to my foster family’s house, I was scared at first, but they are showing me all kinds of exciting, new things! I’m learning how nice it is to have a regular routine so I know what to expect every day instead of always wondering what was going to happen to me next. I’m finding out that a crate isn’t a scary place, and how to do fancy things like go potty outside. I have been doing great with potty training but still need to be on a schedule but I sleep with humans at night now and have had no accidents. I still hangout in my crate when no one is home.  I was never taught that with my first family but I think it’s pretty cool. My foster mom is also teaching me lots of other stuff like “down” and walking nicely on a leash,  but I’ve completely mastered “sit” and  it makes me feel so proud! But honestly, learning is fun and I’ll do just about anything for a treat!

I LOVE children. They are so much fun and I try to be gentle when I’m with them. I also love adult people too but sometimes it takes me a little bit longer to warm up to them. Once I do, I’m their best friend! Sometimes new things make me a little bit nervous but I accustom quickly and know that my people will keep me safe.

I’m still learning what toys are because I don’t think I’ve ever had one before but I think they’re awesome, especially the soft toys because when I’m done playing with them, I can cuddle with them while I nap. I enjoy playing outside and sometimes on hot days, my foster mom will turn on the hose and laugh at how daintily I drink from it. And if you like road trips, I’m the girl for you because I love to ride in the car!

Right now, I’m living with a doggy foster brother and sister. I haven’t had an opportunity to play with dogs very much so I’m still learning proper manners with them. I play nicely with my foster brother and he’s showing me “the ropes.”  I’ve never lived with cats but I did meet one and it bopped me and I was just confused and never reacted! I am having so much fun learning how to be a regular dog with my foster family but I’m ready to have a family of my own for keeps. Could that be with you?

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
