11/20/2016: SANDY IS PAD ELIGIBLE-YOU GET TO PICK YOUR OWN ADOPTION FEE IN AN EFFORT TO GET SANDY IN A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS! THIS SPECIAL ADOPTION FEE OFFER WILL BE GOING ON NOW UNTIL CHRISTMAS.WE JUST ASK THAT YOU BE FAIR IN YOUR OFFER AS WE DO PUT A GREAT DEAL OF TIME. CARE AND MONEY INTO EACH DOG. OUR ADOPTION FEES ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO HELP HOMELESS PETS. Sandy is a purebred chihuahua. She is 10 years old and a bit chunky right now. Her former owner left her and Stella with an older lady who was not able to afford to keep them, after the owner moved away. Both girls are crate trained, housetrained and paper trained according to the lady who surrendered them. She said that they are both good with other dogs and do not know a stranger. Sandy enjoys being beside her people at night and likes to cuddle but unlike Stella, she prefers not to be under the covers. Both girls enjoy attention. We would not recommend them for a home with small children but older children should be fine. We are unsure about cats but because of their size, they would probably be fine around cats as well. They are out of the chewing, rambunctious puppy stage so they would make wonderful companions for older people or families who may not be very active. They are chihuahuas so they will not require a great deal of exercise-a walk or short romp in the yard will do. The perfect dog for anyone who just wants a laid back, easy going dog that will not require a lot of activity and training. Both girls would make wonderful traveling companions and lap buddies. The adoption fee for Sandy will be $100 and will help to cover her vetting and cost of care while with us. If interested in giving Sandy a home, please email your interest and submit an adoption application. For more information, please feel free to call us @ (352)493-1255.

About Paws & Claws

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 250 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! You can also see our pets and/or fill out our adoption application on We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We operate from our home so our pets can be seen by appointment only. Please call or e-mail(prefer) to schedule a time to visit.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption application to be filled out and approved prior to any adoption. Our adoption fee for our dogs is $125.00 and up and for most of our cats that still require vetting it is $75.00. We currently have a special adoption fee for our cats who are already completely vetted(spayed/neutered and UTD vacc )You can adopt one of these kitties for ONLY $25.00!!! If for any reason a pet that you adopt can not remain with you, we require that the pet be returned to Paws & Claws to be rehomed. We do NOT give refunds for any reason so please consider adoption carefully before you take a pet home. We also ONLY accept CASH as payment for our adoption fees. Our main requirement to adopt is LOVE! If you can offer love to a needy pet, please consider adoption. Your reward will be a devoted friend for life.
