My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This big, friendly, YOUNG (about 2-3 years old) and sociable Standard Poodle boy is being called NEMO! I have seen him tilt his head to the side when you say Nemo! He will also come when he is called, will sit upon request and shake your hand!

Nemo is a creamy white "Velcro" Standard Poodle who is extremely friendly to everyone he meets and greatly appreciates all the attention he can get.

Now at 58 pounds (doesn’t he look great) and 27 inches tall (measuring from the floor to his shoulders) we find that Nemo is a big, active, sociable, silly Standard Poodle who loves to romp, run, play, run, romp, play and run! He looks like a graceful White-tailed deer or a Gazelle running with his Poodle zoomies.

He wants to be with people so he will rub against you and then and wrap around anyone for attention. Nothing shy about this boy! He also loves to be hugged as he is so starved for attention. Truly, an amazing lover boy with a cream puff personality and a big loving heart, even after all he has been through!

Simple things make this boy happy, including just going for a walk. However, he will pull on the leash, so OBEDIENCE IS NEEDED. You will truly need to have the strength, energy and ability to keep up with this big boy.

Throw a ball and watch him run to get it and then he will return it right back to you! You can spend hours playing ball with this boy! (See Video)

Previous Standard Poodle experience will be given preference. As the video shows, this boy loves to run so a fenced yard is going to be required. Please! NO CATS or small dogs; Nemo will chase them! No young children, unless they enjoy being pushed over. Did I tell you Nemo loves to be with people? This is a people dog! LOTS MORE PICTURES ON OUR WEB SITE.

Nemo also LOVES his food and treats. To help put some weight on his thin body, Nemo is being fed in his kennel 3 big and healthy meals a day. With lots of food and love and food and attention and more food, this boy is gaining weight and already looks fantastic!

You need to know that when other Poodles come near Nemo while he is eating, he will growl! But there are NO PROBLEMS if I reach in to remove his food.

I’ve tried various times on various days and had no problem with taking his food before, during or after he eats. He just sits and waits for his food to be returned. Obviously, he just doesn’t like other dogs around when he is eating!

Nemo will be a good playmate for another dog but all the other dogs we have introduced to Nemo are afraid of him. Nemo is an extremely soft, friendly and a very outgoing boy who would NOT hurt anything or anyone. Nemo just doesn’t understand his boundaries (example: in your face) and wants everyone to be his friend and play with him.

By his expressions and experiences with other dogs, Nemo says: Why don’t those dogs like me, Gail? I just want to be silly and play with them!.

Nemo has been heartworm tested negative and placed on a preventative. His teeth have been cleaned and the Vet concurred that he is very young. He was neutered, wormed, shots are up to date and he has been Home Again micro chipped and registered.

He has been a perfect gentleman in our home with no accidents. He also has the curiosity of a cat and wants to know: What’s that? What are you doing? Can I do that? What is on the counter? Can I drink out of this toilet? Where are you going? Can I go to? A car ride? YEA! Lets go in that 1966 Mustang like Boomer did!

Because of all his sores found on his skin when he arrived, our Vet scraped his skin and analyzed it under the microscope. They found bacteria and fungus growth which most likely was caused by his urine soaked fur. Antibiotics and a special shampoo (a bath 3 times a week) were prescribed. His skin is now amazingly beautiful!

To the right family, his adoption fee (includes our Minnesota State Sales Tax) will help cover some of his Veterinarian expenses. Also included is a bag of quality dog food, dog treats, a container of vitamins, leash, collar, blanket, dog bed and various toys along with information to help your adoption start off on the right paw forward! Certainly a rare opportunity for the right family as Standard Poodles like Nemo are hard to find!

NEMO’S HISTORY: He had been found as a stray wandering a Minnesota county road. After a few days the finder gave him to another rescue group who called us asking to help.

We picked up the matted, dirty, urine soaked big boy and got to work on cleaning him up. Pictures show just how bad of shape this boy was in. Then after shaving him naked, we could see he was nothing more than bones and skin riddled with lots of sores, scabs, holes and bruises (pictured on our web site).

However, the next morning, Picket Fence Poodle Rescue was contacted by the county authorities where the Poodle was found. They came and picked him up from us as legally, we could not keep him.

Laws in Minnesota require that all strays must be held at a facility for 5 business days. This gives the owner legal time to come forward and claim the dog as being theirs. Yes, neglect and cruelty charges could have been filed against the person who came forward to claim this Poodle as theirs but no one called to ask or identify him.

After the legal holding period we immediately drove to the county animal control location. Papers were signed and Nemo legally came to Picket Fence Poodle Rescue. At our Vet’s office he only weighed in at only 52 pounds and was so painfully thin that his bones protruded out of his skin.

But those days are gone and now finding Nemo a new home / family has begun!
