Meet Shyla!  This beautiful girl is an older Treeing Walker Coonhound who is approximately 9 - 10 years old.  She is about 60 pounds.  She is very friendly and just wants to be loved.  She is still a little shy with certain noises but is gaining confidence every day.

From her foster mom:   Shyla is one of the sweetest, kindest dogs I have ever met.  She is so gentle and loving.  Shyla would love nothing more than to spend the day cuddling with her person on the couch and going for a couple of walks a day.  She also enjoys going to the dog park.   When Shyla first came to us she was very timid and shy (hence the name).  She is still very unsure of certain noises and will run out the door but will soon come back inside.   She has learned how to play with other dogs and discovered toys.  It has been amazing watching her grow into a happy, more confident dog.   I would love to see Shyla go to a home with another confident friendly dog to help her gain more confidence.  She would love to have a buddy that she can snuggle with when her people are not at home.   Shyla is crate trained and likes to go in her crate when there are thunder storms.  She can be left alone uncrated and is not destructive and has not had an accident in the house.  She walks very well on leash.  She is also good in the car, she just lays down and goes to sleep.   When she is nervous she does drool!

About Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue is a small, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the memory of my beloved coonhound Jake. Our volunteers are dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned coonhounds find loving and permanent homes as indoor pets. We are based and operate in Ontario. We have been rescuing these wonderful hounds since 2003. We are also a member of Coonhound Companions where our goal is to educate the public about misconception that hounds do not make good family pets. We want to share our love of coonhounds with the whole continent, with hopes of inspiring dog lovers everywhere to consider adopting a coonhound.

Come Meet Our Pets...

If you would like to meet one of our hounds please contact us as they are located in foster homes throughout Ontario. We always in need of more foster homes. Please contact us to find out how you can help a coonhound today!

Our Adoption Process...

All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes a telephone interview, filling out an application, reference checks and a home visit. An adoption donation is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each coonhound. Bluetick Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue remains committed to each animal for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the hound be returned to us.
