My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

The Bimini Chronicles
On June 25th 2016, our rescue became aware of a dog who was left for dead on Hwy 190 in Eunice, Louisiana. She was close to starvation and had hardly enough strength to life her head. Covered in flies and flea infested, the caller who reported seeing her could not have imagined that this pup was still alive. Even when the Animal Control Officer went to the location, he was shocked to see there was some life still left in this angel.

How did she wind up in this place and in this condition, we will never know. Clearly this is a case of extreme animal cruelty and neglect. Clearly this is a case of extreme animal cruelty and neglect. But let's move forward and focus on the miracle of this sweet and gentle soul's will to live.

When we became aware of Bimini's plight, a request was sent out to our members, "Please say a special prayer for this sweet baby, fighting for her life. If she survives, our rescue has offered to take her."

St Landry’s Shelter Wrote: Update...She's a girl...about 8 months old. Started IV. We have named her, Bimini. I can't even find words - tears, horror . Flies have covered her body. She cannot even move to force them to leave. She can blink her eyes and gently move her tail but she cannot wag it. You feel her pain and maybe even her plight. We have routed her to the animal clinic. We will do all we can to preserve life. Mr Red (animal control officer for Eunice) picked her up this morning. He, too, thought she was dead. We will keep all posted with any updates we get.

St Landry’s Shelter Wrote: Bimini made it through the weekend! They are moving her from isolation and into the regular vetting unit. She is standing, wagging her tail, and trying to eat small amounts. Wants to be petted, held, and loved on. Dr Kevin estimates her age at 8-9 months, weighing only 14 lbs. She has a vaginal discharge and is extremely anemic. She has had 2 blood transfusions and they took the IV out this morning as she kept trying to chew the line....So we guess, that could be good. 😄 She is stronger! She was so weak when they picked her up she could not even lift her head. He will check into the vaginal discharge and check her for heart worms in the next couple of days. So far....so good!!!"

St Landry’s Shelter Wrote: There are moments that time passes and we forget. Rarely do we capture these moments. Dr Kevin gently tells Bimini that she is going to be ok...Dr Kevin is a kind-hearted soul that has dedicated so much of his time and effort to saving Animals of St LANDRY Parish.. Thank you, Dr Kevin and Bellevue Vet Clinic."

St Landry’s Shelter Wrote: Bimini continues to improve daily. She is doing well. Her daily world is filled with goodness, happy thoughts and encouragement. It's hard to imagine that just days ago she was found fly infested on Hwy 190, in Eunice, Louisiana...It's a long road to recovery, but one she will not walk ALONE.....THANK you all!"

St Landry’s Shelter Wrote: "Visited with Bimini...who is negative. She is in excellent care at Dr Kevins. She has her IV out and has gained almost 3 lbs. Yeah Bimini. Yeah Dr Kevin!"

We received word this morning that Bimini is ready to be released from the care of the vet's office! We are awaiting details of her transport to SGRR! And then soon... to her forever home!

Foster Update: Bimini is safely at my house, She is SO LITTLE, almost fragile looking and totally in love with Lily. Guess that will be all the attention I'll be getting from Lily... as she has her own dog now. She is very, very small, thin and fragile. Having two canine siblings is calming to her as well.

Bimini currently weighs about 18 lbs and is enjoying her meals so much that she is getting into foster sister Lily's food bowl! The vet feels she will probably be about 25 pounds when at her ideal weight. She is heartworm negative, and will brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and will be spayed. She has a bit of a way to go before she is ready to be adopted, but it is not too early to apply or ask about her if you are already approved to adopt through SGRR. Enjoy the photos of Bimini in her foster home with foster sister Lily Ombre! :-)

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
