Facts about Skye

  • Breed: Paint/Pinto Mix
  • Color: White
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large
  • Sex: Female
Skye is a 15 hand 6 yr old Paint mare (unregistered). She came to us from a feedlot where we were told she was going to ship soon to slaughter. She came to us underweight and handled very little but has quickly gained weight and is responding great to training!
Skye started professional training in late July 2016. She has been doing great in training so far. Once she is a little farther along in her training, we will be setting her adoption fee and start showing her to potential new owners. At the end of the 30 days training included with her adoption, Skye will know how to walk/trot/lope under saddle, ride English and Western, trail ride confidently, and cross obstacles (cross rail size). Follow this page to see weekly or more often updates with videos and photos as Skye progresses in her training.
Our rescue is in Seneca SC and Skye is in training in Greenwood SC at Sweet Carolina Acres where she can be seen and ridden by potential owners. She is current on her basic vaccines, dentistry, hoof care, Coggins, and is microchipped.

Update: You can now get daily updates on Skye via her Facebook page, Finding a home for Skye, at

Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess!
Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing.

Please email or call us at (864)972-9994 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligibile for 25% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website,
To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, and email it to We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and offiicially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone.

About CARE - Crossroads Animal Rescue

About Our Shelter...

CARE was founded to decrease euthanasias in Oconee County, SC. We primarily aquire animals from the local animal control. Most of these pets would be euthanized if we did not take them. Once in our program, they are adopted out through us or transfered to another rescue/shelter where they are not at risk for euthanasia.
We work primarily with puppies and kittens as this is the age group most likely to be euthanized at our local animal control.
Our equine rescues are primarily neglect cases from animal control. We design feeding programs for them to gain weight back safely, provide hoof care, and treat any medical problems. Once healthy enough to adopt, we find them loving homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Come to 8409 W. Oak Hwy, Seneca, SC anytime during business hours to meet our on-site pets. Our on-site pets are primarily puppies in the 4-6 month range and all ages of kittens and cats. To meet a pet in a foster home (this includes most young puppies as well as most adult dogs and all the horses), call or email to schedule a time. We will arrange to have the dogs/puppies brought to the clinic for you to meet or arrange for you to go to the foster home where the horse is staying.
We periodically have adoption events where we take some of our adoptable pets. Follow us on Facebook to learn of adoption events.

Our Adoption Process...

To adopt a pet from CARE, contact us and give us the information for our adoption application. This can be via phone or by going to our website, downloading the adoption application, and filling it out and emailing it to us.
Once we receive your application, we will contact your vet references and review the application to approve you. This can usually be done on the same day you apply. Sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt.
You may meet our onsite pets prior to filling out the application if you prefer. For off site pets, we do request an approved application before scheduling a meeting.
To adopt after being approved, you simply pay the adoption fee and take your new family member home! You may adopt over the phone and then schedule to travel to meet your new pet. Adopting over the phone does require paying the adoption fee which is non-refundable if you change your mind about adopting.
Adoption fees vary depending on which pet you are interested in. These are often listed on the pet's profile but if not, feel free to email or call to ask.
We are available for phone calls weekdays 8a-5p and Saturdays 8a-Noon. You will reach the receptionist for Crossroads Animal Hospital which is the vet hospital who founded CARE. After working hours, we can be reached via email which is usually checked daily but may take up to 48 hours for a reply.
